Ten Years of Scale
This month, we turn ten. What started as an idea in a college dorm room has grown into one of the defining companies behind the most consequential technology of our time. Scale was built on a belief that was unpopular: data matters as much as models and compute. Early on, most AI systems were built on top of data that was incomplete, inconsistent, and impossible to properly validate. There was no real infrastructure for it, and no clear way to ensure quality.

Top 11 Museums and Theaters in NYC
New York City is known around the world for its vibrant arts and culture scene. From theater and dance to fine art and history, you can find it all here. Using last week’s trip data, we found out where New Yorkers and tourists went to get their culture fix.
How America Eats
Everyday, Uber Eats feed millions of people around the world. While we know what our customers are craving and where and when they eat, we also wanted to better understand why. If we can begin to understand our eaters, we can better serve them through products built with their needs in mind. We also had some burning questions, like who’s texting-and-dining, and do people really follow the five second rule?
Dessert Pizza: Why you’re gonna want a pizza this.
What happens when you take one of our favorite foods and turn it into an amazingly sweet, mouthwatering dessert? Well, when it’s dessert pizza, just about anything can happen, actually. As far as dessert ideas go, this one is a winner. It’s the perfect balance of textures and there is almost no limit to what to top it with. If you’re making one, go with your gut. For real. Dessert pizza could be fruit and chocolate, or chocolate chips and marshmallows.
180 Days of Change: Improvements to uberPOOL
In June we made a commitment to drivers: For 180 days (and beyond), we’d make meaningful changes to the driver experience based on what drivers asked for. We started with what drivers told us matters most: earnings, and then turned our focus to better support and more flexibility. 180 Days of Change is dedicated to making sure that every Uber trip is a good one. That’s why it wouldn’t be complete without improving uberPOOL. We heard two key things from drivers: earn more, stress less with uberPOOL.
More access to restaurants at the push of a button: Introducing cash payments on UberEATS
Since launching UberEATS in India four months ago, Mumbaikars have shown a ferocious appetite for the ease and convenience of food delivery at the push of a button. That’s why we’re excited for more people to tap into this same convenience by introducing cash as an additional payment option for UberEATS in Mumbai. Just as with Uber rides, we’ve built this feature for India first. We will eventually expand the option to some of the other 29 countries where UberEATS is available today.
Supporting DREAMers
When I was 10 years old, I left Vietnam with my mother and younger brother, crammed with 470 other people without life jackets onto an old fishing boat to Malaysia. It was a perilous and terrifying four-day journey—with major storms threatening to sink us, and pirates with guns and knives who robbed us and could kill us as well. We were the lucky ones who survived the 50% odds of that sea crossing.
Highlights from Today's Company Meeting
Today, Uber’s new CEO Dara Khosrowshahi addressed employees at our headquarters in San Francisco and around the world. Whether you’re a freshman or a senior headed back to campus this fall, one thing is certain—you’ll need to eat. Uber Hong Kong Fare Revision

Connect Ahead of the Pickup with In-App Chat
Every great ride starts with the pickup, so we’re always thinking about ways to make the pickup experience as frictionless as possible for riders and drivers alike. That includes helping riders and drivers connect should they need to get in touch with one another to solve for things like road closures, or to just provide information on their exact location. Today riders and drivers can contact one another using apps outside of Uber.

Using Uber This Summer? Don’t Forget to Check Your Ride
It’s summer, which means barbecues, parties and more people out and about using Uber to get from A to B. A great ride starts with your safety, and with Uber, that starts with getting into the right car. That’s why this summer we’re launching a public awareness campaign about steps people can take to avoid getting into the wrong car. While rare, in partnership with law enforcement, we have been made aware of reports from cities across the country about rideshare scams.
Here We Go Again: DC Taxi Commission Proposes New Rules to Shut Down Uber
The DC Taxi Commission is on the war path again, proposing rules that would essentially put Uber DC out of business. I’ve sent an email to the city council (below) alerting them to the Commission’s continued efforts to outlaw Uber’s affordable, reliable transportation system. Keep the love alive with #UberDCLove, and sign up here if you’d like to help with our online activism efforts.

He left the firm to find a different path.

When he was just getting started in the culinary world, Luciano noticed how the Italian chef he worked for brought his community together through his food. Emboldened by this experience, Luciano decided to bring a taste of his home country to his Boston community by opening his own restaurant. What started as a take-out Brazilian restaurant named Oasis Steakhouse in a small town outside of Boston became a neighborhood staple over the years.

Standing up for what's right
Our CEO and co-founder Travis Kalanick sent this email to Uber employees today, opposing the recent travel ban and working to compensate drivers using Uber who are impacted by the ban. Starting today, riders who request an uberX in San Francisco will be matched with a Self-Driving Uber if one is available.
Selfies and Security
Technology is a beautiful thing. It can make life more convenient by allowing people to push a button and get something good—like a ride, a home rental or dinner. It’s also a powerful tool that can improve safety and security in ways not possible before. What excites us most is the potential for products and features to prevent issues before they even happen. That’s certainly the case with several safety features we rolled out earlier this summer to reduce driving risks.
