Surly Dunoon Dirt Dash or Bramble Bash?
I pre rode the hike a bike on day one at the Surly Dunoon Dirt Dash, and I think I was the first to use this old trail this year. It took a couple of hours to put a Charlie shaped cutting through there. It actually tore my socks to shreds. It’s was beautiful in there, very much like Costa Rica and it’s rain forests. Well there was rain, and forest.
DT Swiss XMC 1501 Spline One wheelset review
DT Swiss makes some great wheelsets, but is the DT Swiss XMC 1501 the gold standard of lightweight wheels? Find out in our review. You might be surprised to learn that quite often product reviewers (well, this reviewer anyway) hope that the thing they’re expected to write hundreds of words about is a bit rubbish, or at least has one or two major flaws. Those reviews write themselves.

Spank Vibrocore Drop Bars and Wheels - Fast And Comfortable?
Spank Flare 24 Vibrocore Wheelset and Flare 25 Vibrocore handlebar Price: Wheelset £289.99 front / £379.99 rear | Handlebar £89.99 From: Hotlines Tested: 3 months “Can you review some wheels and handlebars that are supposed to reduce nerve issues and tingly hands, Jase?” Hannah asked. Don’t let the ORANGE distract you from the bars and wheels! I didn’t need asking twice. I’ve been plagued with hand numbness, pins and needles and weird issues when riding my bike for years.
Rotor Kapic Carbon Chainset | Tune Your Race Set-Up
We put mile-muncher Jason Miles to work on the Rotor Kapic Carbon Chainset. Is he leading the pack with these light weight cranks? Spanish component manufacturer Rotor has been around since the early 1990s and claims, probably quite rightly, that it developed oval chainrings to iron out the common ‘dead spot’ of a pedalling stroke.
RockShox SID Ultimate Carbon 29er fork | Beautiful And Fast
We let Jason loose on a RockShox SID Ultimate Carbon 29er fork. Will anyone be able to catch up with him to get it back? I wonder how many riders have won races on bikes equipped with SID forks? Must be loads and loads. More than any other fork in history? It’s likely. More beautiful than flowers? I’ve owned a few SIDs in the past and at one time at least, there weren’t too many alternative suspension forks that could match the light weight and performance of the SID.
Shimano S-Phyre SH-XC901 SPD Carbon Mountain Bike Shoes
Jason reviews the latest go-fast SPD MTB shoe from Shimano; the S-Phyre SH-XC901 If youâre serious about riding bikes fast and going faster than other people, youâre probably going to be interested in the S-Phyre SH-XC901 shoes (or the XC901 if you want to keep your teeth in) which are right at the top of Shimanoâs range of off road cycling shoe range. Uncompromising, stiff and lightweight, are they any use for anything other than racing? So bright they glow.
Review | Syncros XR 1.0 SL: A lightweight, carbon railed racing saddle
Looking for a lightweight saddle to give you the edge in a race? Jason tried out this carbon railed offering from Syncros. The Syncros XR 1.0 saddle sits at the top of the Syncros XR range of saddles and sports a carbon base, carbon rails and not a great deal of padding to keep the weight down. Other saddles in the range (the XR 1.5 and the XR 2.0) have titanium rails (a bit heavier) and cromo rails (heavier still).
Ortlieb's New Atrack BP
Is Ortliebâs new Atrack BP bag the answer to bikepacking on a full suspension bike? Not everyone can fit bikepacking bags to their bike. There are some awkward frame designs out there and not everyone has got the room. Some people donât want to either. The fact is, strapping a load of bulk to any bike is going to affect the handling and while the effect of saddle packs and frame packs can be minimised, not everyone is going to be keen.
Review: Jason likes titanium but did this Pilot Duro live up to expectations?
“Many, many years you will be enjoying the magical riding qualities of your handcrafted, high grade titanium frame”, it says on the Pilot website. My own personal experience of titanium frames is that I’m yet to ride one that’s ‘magical’ but I can say with some certainty that in general they’re very nice to ride. SleekHannah Pilot-ing. Geddit.
Column: Moving On - mountain bikers don’t need to ride to stay fit
Jason Miles has moved to another country. Well, Scotland. I’ve very recently moved house. It wasn’t a particularly straightforward move – we upped sticks and relocated from Manchester to a fairly remote part of southern Scotland, but it’s quiet, friendly and the cycling here is incredible.
