What was your first job as a journalist?
Writing about the history and future of the bakla in Filipino queer cinema for Underdog PH

How is social media changing news?
The need for fast facts is making it more difficult to fact-check and creating a reactionary landscape towards information.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
No preferences! But it would be great of people could have specific notes to help narrow down the story and zero in on what they'd want.

Why did you become a journalist?
Because of a global pandemic.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I was a managing editor and a features writer in my final year, but I don't know if it counts as experience.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
My essay on body dysmorphia and the need for body liberation.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Be voracious with your consumption of art. Keep writing. Take a break every now and then.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
To write an article about how to move forward with science in the Philippines after a terrible 2020.
What's your favorite drink?
Non-alcoholic: Water. Alcoholic: Vodka. No chaser.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Onstage performing, in the lab doing an experiment, or on my bed reading a book/watching a film.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I love reading whatever is on the Criterion Channel, Sight & Sound, New York Times, Atlantic, and Vox. I also really love independent pubs.
