1. Introduction The increased research and development in sustainable routes to valuable chemicals largely derived from bio-based feedstock continues unabated. Increased adoption of bio-diesel as a fuel blend has been one area of intensive development; however, a number of other processes have been investigated, such as the production of bio-alcohols [1–3]. The formation of bio-diesel via transesterification of triglycerides with methanol results in the formation of impure glycerol [4].
