Vanity plates create buzz - Pest Management Professional
What’s in a name? A lot, if it is one of the vanity license plates bolted to a Sprague Pest Solutions service vehicle. The fleet of the 96-year-old Tacoma, Wash.-based company comprises more than 300 vehicles — more than 60 percent of which have a vanity plate. The Sprague vanity plate tradition started with BUGMAN, as a birthday gift to then-President Bob Treleven from his children in 1972. That was the first year the state of Washington allowed vanity plates to be purchased by vehicle owners.
Logical Leadership
Jamie Ogle let logic dictate who would succeed him as president of Lloyd Pest Control. The third-generation pest management professional, who will remain CEO, looked no further than his own ranks for the right candidate. Earlier this year, Scott Crowley, a 32-year veteran of the company, was named president and chief operating officer of the San Diego-based company, which checks in at No. 25 on this year’s Top 100 list.

Rose Pest Solutions has developed a canine bed bug detection team made up of specially trained dogs and handlers to efficiently track down bed bugs. Lloyd Pest Control Doubles Down On Its Mission
Mythical ad man Don Draper once said, “If you don’t like what’s being said, change the conversation.” When Lloyd Pest Control decided its longtime mission statement needed a refresh, it changed the “conversation” with the help of its team members. Jamie Ogle, Lloyd president and CEO, said the San Diego-based company had wanted to come up with a mission statement that resonated with employees, but was also easy to remember.
Hearing Is Believing
Photo: Pest and Diseases Image Library, Bugwood.org The stealthy drywood termite is an elusive adversary for pest management professionals. These termites enter a structure with little fanfare, leaving homeowners in the dark about their very presence until it is too late. And they often leave PMPs earnestly searching for the source of the infestation.
Broken Engagement?
The pest management industry’s adoption of technology grows every day. Whether it is remote monitoring for pests, onboarding a new employee or completing service reports, the operational efficiencies, cost savings and speed at which companies are embracing technology and pivoting to meet current needs is impressive.

That should give pest management professionals something to ponder as they strategize on how to reach potential customers now and in the future.
Putting Technology to Work
In a recent Forbes magazine survey, several hundred executives said they are focusing on efficiency rather than revenue growth alone, and that technology is crucial to achieving that goal.
