What was your first job as a journalist?

Writing record reviews for a local zine in 1987.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, I am that old.

How is social media changing news?

By creating a whirl of short attention span theater, echo chamber noise, and mis/disinformation that spreads rapidly.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I currently publish my posts/newsletters through Ghost.

What's your favorite social network?

Bluesky

Why did you become a journalist?

Working with words has always brought me an inexplicable joy.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I wrote album reviews, drew cartoons, and contributed the occasional humor piece.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My debut novel, "Langley Powell and the Society for the Defense of the Mundane," published via Humorist Books in 2024.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Pay more attention in math class.

What's your favorite drink?

Like Tom T. Hall said, I like beer.
