What was your first job as a journalist?
Writing for a military newspaper called the Tinker Take Off. It was a contract position via the Journal Record in OKC.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Oh, yeah.
How is social media changing news?
For starters, headlines have become atrocious. The citizen journalist is also powerful, though few can exercise this power w/out consequence.

What does it mean to be a journalist?
Tell the truth and nothing but the truth so help me God.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Be curious about everything and don't believe even half of what you hear. It's very easy to find the truth of you just look for it.
When's the best time to pitch you?
9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
There've been too many. Probably the last one when the PR person wrote to say my story helped her so much.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
A Barbie dressed up like an artist to promote an opening.
What's your favorite drink?
Diet Coke.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In bed or cooking or watching TV

What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That Gen Xers don't care about God, religion or their generation.
