Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile: Further Ado Nips Owen Almighty at the Wire
The wait for the photo finish took longer than race itself, but in the end, even-money favorite Further Ado prevailed by a nose over Owen Almighty in wild head-bobbing finish to win the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) on Saturday at Keeneland. Further Ado (1), ridden by jockey Flavien Prat, wins the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky on October 30, 2026.
Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile 2026: Further Ado Heads Wide-Open Field
Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) or Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1), that was the question. The answer came at the post-position draw on Monday: Knightsbridge was entered in the $7 million BC Classic, and Further Ado and Forged Steel were entered in the $1 million BC Dirt Mile at Keeneland on Saturday. The trio was pre-entered for both races. When Knightsbridge was declared for the Classic to run with stablemate Sovereignty, the BC Dirt Mile became an intriguing alternative for the others.
Bourbon Stakes 2026: Hemingway, Bold Leadership Head Wide-Open Juvenile Turf Test
The road to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) makes its final major stop Sunday at Keeneland, where 11 2-year-olds were entered for the 36th running of the $400,000 Bourbon Stakes (G2). Mid American. Coady Photo. The 1 1/16-mile Bourbon closes out a blockbuster Fall Stars Weekend featuring 11 stakes worth $6.35 million, six Grade 1 races and eight Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In” events.
Coolmore Turf Mile Stakes Odds: Can Zulu Kingdom Overcome Outside Post?
Zulu Kingdom knows his way around Keeneland. José Ortiz has about eight seconds after the gates open Saturday for the $250,000 Coolmore Turf Mile (G1) to figure out how they’re going to get there. The 4-year-old already owns a Grade 1 victory over the course, having taken the Maker’s Mark Mile (G1) from start to finish in the spring.
Vosburgh Stakes Odds: Senior Officer Betting Choice in BC Sprint Qualifier
The Vosburgh's grade may have diminished, but its capacity to produce a Breeders' Cup horse has not. Nine sprinters return from last week’s postponed edition, pushed back to Thursday because of heavy rain and windy conditions at the new Belmont Park. At 7 furlongs, the $250,000 Vosburgh Stakes (G3) is a "Win, and You're In" qualifier for the $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) on Oct. 31 at Keeneland.
Vosburgh Stakes Odds: Breeders’ Cup Sprint Qualifier Betting Analysis
The Vosburgh's grade may have diminished, but its capacity to produce a Breeders' Cup horse has not. Ten sprinters will test the new Belmont Park on Saturday in the $250,000 Vosburgh Stakes (G3), a 7-furlong "Win and You're In" qualifier for the $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) on Oct. 31 at Keeneland. For all the illustrious names on the Vosburgh honor roll, this year's entrants have combined for only two graded-stakes victories.
Gulfstream Park Betting: Joseph Holds Strong Hand in Princess Rooney
Saffie Joseph, Jr. has owned the Princess Rooney Stakes for the past three years. On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, he will try to make it four straight -- and he’ll have three chances to do it.
Hopeful Stakes Odds: The Good Life, Booked Top Field of 2-Year-Olds
The Good Life looked like a colt with a future when he cruised to a 3 1/2-length debut victory at Saratoga. On Sunday, the WinStar Farm homebred will find out how bright that future may be when he faces seven other juveniles in the $300,000 Hopeful Stakes (G1). The 7-furlong Hopeful, traditionally the closing-day highlight at Saratoga, drew a field containing a graded stakes winner, several flashy maiden winners, and enough early speed to make the race particularly intriguing.
Travers Day Undercard: Hymn Wins Forego Stakes, Earns BC Dirt Mile Spot
Hymn put in a strong stretch run after racing just outside pace-setter Tip Top Thomas and won the $500,000 Forego Stakes (G1) on Saturday at Saratoga. Ridden by Ricardo Santana, Jr., who arrived in town after winning the $1 million Charles Town Classic (G1) aboard Willy D’s, Hymn clear took advantage of the absence of Book’em Danno. Along with Banishing, the 2025 Forego winner was scratched due to an incident in his stall Friday.
Travers Day Undercard: Fully Subscribed Soars in Personal Ensign
Fully Subscribed was all in for the $500,000 Personal Ensign Stakes (G1), pulling away in the stretch with every stride and rolling to a 9-¾-length victory on Saturday at Saratoga. The win earned the 4-year-old filly trained by Chad Brown a fees-paid spot in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) at Keeneland on Oct. 31, a race that also will feature top filly Nitrogen.
Travers Day Betting: Book’em Danno, Banishing Scratched from Forego Stakes
Book’em Danno, the even-money favorite for today’s $500,000 Forego Stakes (G1) at Saratoga, was scratched hours before the race after he “cast " himself in his stall, according to trainer Derek Ryan. When a horse gets cast, it becomes trapped lying on its side too close to a wall or stall, making it unable to get its legs underneath to stand up. “He was bouncing around here (stall) going crazy yesterday, and he must have got cast in his stall last night,” Ryan told drf.com.
Forego Stakes Odds: Book’em Danno Shoots for a Six-Pack of Spa Wins
Book’em Danno has made Saratoga Race Course something of a second home, and the reigning Champion Male Sprinter will try to add another Spa victory Saturday when he defends his title in the $500,000 Forego Stakes (G1). The 7-furlong Forego for 3-year-olds and up drew a field of eight and offers the winner an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) on Oct. 31 at Keeneland.

On September 14, 1959, a “new” Aqueduct Racetrack re-opened with 42,473 in attendance. At the time, the $33 million structure was the world’s largest sports venue in terms of acreage, and hopes were that the city’s lone racetrack would be the backbone of racing revenue in the state of New York. That first day of wagering totaled $3.4 million – about $37 million in today’s dollars – and opened with a massive crowd that included Mayor Robert Wagner and former Gov.
Belmont Stakes Undercard Winners: Nysos Rolls in Met Mile; Deterministic Takes Manhattan
Under a masterly ride from Flavien Prat, 7-5 favorite Nysos dropped off the early lead, then circled the field and ran off to a commanding victory on Saturday in the $1 million Metropolitan Handicap (G1) at Saratoga Race Course. The Met Mile was among the graded stakes undercard races leading up to the $2 million Belmont Stakes (G1), post time 7:04 p.m. ET, featuring a rematch between Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Golden Tempo and runner-up Renegade.

Acorn Stakes Betting: Always a Runner 4-5 Favorite; Odds, Picks
With a pedigree that includes sire Gun Runner’s affinity for classic distances and the grit that comes from her dam sire, Malibu Moon, along with deep-pocketed owners in Douglas Scharbauer and Three Chimneys Farm and a five-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer in Chad Brown, Always a Runner seemed to have the odds with her when it came to surviving a serious bout with pneumonia last fall.
Aristedes Stakes Odds: Longshots Durante, Tejano Twist Seek Upset
Since launching their careers back in 2021, veteran geldings Durante and Tejano Twist have, between them, started 97 times, winning 23 of those (including five graded stakes), finishing second or third in 36 others, and earned $3,938,688 – more than the rest of the field for Saturday’s $275,000 Aristides Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs combined.
2026 Preakness Stakes at Laurel Park: A Different Triple Crown Experience
No “Toilet Run.” No Kegasus. No Bruno Mars, no Lorde, no ZZ Top. NO INFIELD. What gives? Saturday’s Preakness Stakes (G1) is being held at Laurel Park, about 30 miles south and a couple of light years removed from the raucous, rowdy – and let’s put it bluntly – raunchy infield carnival that marked previous iterations of the “Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown” at Pimlico Race Course, where the race shared equal billing with public intoxication.
Skipping the Preakness: We’ve Seen This Before
The thought of a Kentucky Derby winner bypassing the second leg of racing’s Triple Crown used to be unthinkable. And yet here we are in 2026, reacting to Golden Tempo skipping the Preakness Stakes (G1) to prepare for the Belmont Stakes three weeks later with something closer to a collective shrug than righteous fury. Maybe that’s because racing has seen this before. Three of the last five Kentucky Derby winners (Rich Strike, Sovereignty and Golden Tempo) have bypassed the Preakness.
Kentucky Derby Contender: Incredibolt
When Incredibolt won the 2025 Street Sense Stakes (G3) going around two turns at Churchill Downs, the colt’s connections began thinking about the first Saturday in May. It was the Pin Oak color bearer's second victory in as many starts over the track – something no other Derby contender has on his resume.
Kentucky Derby Contender: Albus
As an 11-1 winner of the Wood Memorial (G2) in its final iteration at Aqueduct Racetrack, Albus made the move from impressive maiden winner to the top 10 on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard with 100 points. Having exhibited both tactical speed and a strong closing kick in his four-race career, the Pin Oak Stud color-bearer seems to have gotten it together for trainer Riley Mott as he joins stablemate Incredibolt in the starting gate for the Run for the Roses. Albus.
Kentucky Derby Contender: Right to Party
Two days after his second-place finish in the Wood Memorial (G2) at Aqueduct brought his total points on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard to 65, Right to Part’s connections paid a late nomination fee of $6,000 so he could Run for the Roses. He’ll be a longshot – as he has for much of his short career – but he’s trained by Kenny McPeek, who won the Derby in 2024 with Mystik Dan.
Virginia Oaks is for Lovers of 3-Year-Old Fillies; Analysis, Odds, Picks
The second running (on dirt) of the Virginia Oaks at Colonial Downs features a half-dozen promising fillies racing not only for the winner’s share of the $250,000 purse but a virtually guaranteed spot in the starting gate for America’s most renowned race on the first Friday in May, the Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs. In previous iterations, the Virginia Oaks was known as the Commonwealth Oaks when held at Laurel Park in Maryland, and until last year, it was run on turf.
Splendora Heavily Favored in Beholder Mile; Odds, Picks
When Splendora powered to an impressive 4 ¾-length victory in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) last fall, it not only marked her first graded stakes score but established her as a major player in the division. Having made her 2026 debut in the D. Wayne Lukas Stakes (G2) a winning one, the 5-year-old daughter of Audible is now poised to reach millionaire status as she rides a four-race winning streak into Saturday’s $300,000 Beholder Mile (G1) at Santa Anita.
Pegasus World Cup Contender Profile: British Isles
A 5-year-old chestnut son of Triple Crown winner Justify, British Isles, will be wading into somewhat unfamiliar territory at Gulfstream Park when he starts in Saturday’s Pegasus World Cup. For starters, this will be only his third of 22 starts in a graded stakes, having finished sixth in the Hollywood Derby (G1) in November 2024. (More on that shortly).
Demoiselle Betting Odds, Analysis, Picks
The Demoiselle Stakes often reveals which juvenile fillies are ready to move forward all at once, and on Saturday at Aqueduct, Concurrently hopes to prove she’s the one coming together at exactly the right time. The Grade 2, $250,000 event – run at a demanding 1 ⅛ miles – offers 10-5-3-2-1 Kentucky Oaks (G1) qualifying points and headlines a stacked card alongside the Cigar Mile (G2), Remsen Stakes (G2), Elite Power (G3), and rich NYSSS juvenile sprints.
Betting on a Kentucky Longshot for the U.S. Senate? Try Dale Romans
For bettors, Dale Romans has long been the guy whose horses could light up the tote board at any time. Shackleford ($27.20) in the Preakness Stakes (G1). Keen Ice, at 16-1, beating Triple Crown winner American Pharoah in the Travers Stakes (G1). Court Vision ($131.60) in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1). Safe to say that Romans has often walked into a million-dollar race with a horse the public shrugged at, only to walk out having rewritten the payoffs.
Keeneland Day 3 Odds: Bet Spinster, Bourbon Stakes; Odds, Picks
The prohibitive favorite in each of her five starts this year, reigning Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna faces four other fillies and mares in Sunday’s $650,000 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (G1) at Keeneland in what may be her toughest task since last year’s Travers Stakes (G1).
Spinaway Stakes Odds, Betting, Post Positions
No active trainer has had more wins in the Spinaway Stakes (G1) than Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher, who has six victories in the 7-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies to be contested Saturday on closing weekend at Saratoga Race Course.
Coaching Club American Oaks Betting, Picks and Odds
A trio of Grade 1 winners go at it in the $500,000 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course, with 8-5 favorite Immersive trying to rebound from her only defeat.
Happy Birthday Ron Turcotte: Secretariat’s Jockey Turns 84
There is nobody who stands taller in the racing world than Ron Turcotte. And on this date – July 22 – the jockey who rode Secretariat to the 1973 Triple Crown celebrates his 84th birthday. It’s a time to recall the talent, courage, and inspiration Turcotte has displayed as he rose to stardom in the saddle, suffered a spill in a race that left him a paraplegic, and became an advocate for the physically disabled, including the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF).
