Interview

How is social media changing news?

It's provided an immediacy for information which, when wielded appropriately, can be helpful.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I prefer pitches via email, with 1-2 paragraphs. That way I can have an overview of the expectations in order to make an informed decision.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Google Docs, Sheets, Wordpress, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn

What's your favorite social network?

I prefer Instagram.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Generally, the one I'm working on at the time is always the one I'm most proud of. I approach every project with integrity and focus.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Good writing is something that comes with practice. Take every opportunity, no matter how small, to exercise the skill.

When's the best time to pitch you?

I'm most active online in the morning hours.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

To content and copy edit a, "Ted Talk" that was never officially accepted as a Ted Talk ( as was revealed much later, after many revisions).

What's your favorite drink?

Coffee, always and forever.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

In the kitchen, at the piano or outside.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That women who happen to write about parenthood ( among other things) are somehow, "lesser" in their field.
