Jerry Gibson’s Biography

Jerry Gibson stands out as a distinguished figure in the field of education in Texas. His career is characterized by a profound dedication to nurturing student success and advancing educational standards. His lifelong commitment to education began in his youth, inspired by the influential role his teachers played in his community.

Gibson embarked on his educational journey at East Texas Baptist University, graduating in 1993 with a desire to make a lasting impact in education. He further honed his expertise by earning a Master’s in Education from Lamar University in 2002 and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Houston in 2015. These academic milestones not only equipped him with critical skills but also allowed him to forge significant connections with educators across the nation.

Jerry's professional path was marked by a dynamic entry into the educational sector, starting as both a teacher and coach. His commitment to education and athletics provided a strong foundation for his subsequent roles, which included athletic director, assistant principal, and principal. His experiences across these varied positions cemented his resolve to pursue a career in educational administration, where he could implement broader changes to benefit students.

In 2011, Gibson took on a pivotal role as the Executive Director of Secondary Education for the Waco Independent School District, overseeing operations for numerous schools and impacting over 6,500 students. His leadership journey continued as he ascended to superintendent positions in several districts over the next decade, including Coldspring, Oakhurst, and Marshall. In these roles, he tackled challenges ranging from implementing new educational initiatives to fostering strong relationships within the community, always focusing on student access to quality education.

Jerry Gibson's achievements have been recognized through numerous accolades, such as being named ESC 7 Superintendent of the Year in 2020. His leadership was instrumental in elevating the academic performance of Marshall ISD, which saw significant improvements under his guidance.
