By Liz Robinson on 7th December 2020 There are times when you fall completely in love with a book, and this is one of them. Mark Adlington and Unicorn Publishers have created the most stunning tribute to the lion. Lion has captured my heart, and will be a book I regularly return to. Mark is an artist (I hesitate to label him as a wildlife artist) who has championed animals on the brink of extinction. Lion introduces you to Mark’s world, and then sets you free to explore the artwork.

December 2020 Book Club Recommendation: Leave The World Behind by Rumaan Alam
By Liz Robinson on 1st December 2020 We have strayed far, far away from the joys and celebrations of Christmas with the Book Club recommendation for December. Leave the World Behind by Rumaan Alam is an apocalyptic thriller that delivers an intensely claustrophobic atmosphere and chilling plot. You may wonder, after the year we have had, why this particular novel has been chosen. Well, we firmly believe that Book Clubs will have the most fascinating discussions after reading Leave The World Behind.

Lion by Mark Adlington
LoveReading View on Lion Click to read our Q&A with Mark Adlington A book to fall totally and irretrievably in love with, Lion is full of the most gorgeous paintings, drawings, and sketches, and is absolutely stunning. The lion, an apex predator, is surely one of the most beautiful sights you can see. When I was 19 I found myself in Kenya, eyes wide, mouth open as I watched a lioness and three cubs at a water hole.
Pondweed by Lisa Blower
LoveReading View on Pondweed Wonderfully quirky and yet earthy and tangible, this is an engaging and entertaining read. When is a holiday not a holiday? When 71 year old pond supplies salesman Selwyn Robby arrives home towing the work caravan, he tells his childhood sweetheart Ginny she has to pack her bag as they’re off to Wales. What follows is a road trip full of strange encounters, soul-searching and revelation. With a few words Lisa Blower allowed me to not only see, but feel the words.
There’s Something About a Debut
By Liz Robinson on 22nd June 2020 It’s rather special when you realise you are reading a truly fabulous debut. You could be discovering an author that you’ll turn to again and again, or a great new series that you’ll be haunting the book aisles for each year. In 2014 when I first started working for LoveReading, Rene Denfeld hit my booky antenna with The Enchanted, and Sarah Hilary’s DI Marnie Rome got off to a blistering start with Someone Else’s Skin.

Poems for a Pandemic: Voices from the front line of a global epidemic by Angela Marston
LoveReading View on Poems for a Pandemic: Voices from the front line of a global epidemic Heart-rending, inspirational and all-encompassing, Poems for a Pandemicwill undoubtedly become a matchless historic document of how it was to live - and die - during the Covid-19 pandemic. And right now, in June 2020, with most of the world still in the clutches of Covid-19, it’s an invaluably empathic volume that shows we are not alone even when we feel at our loneliest.
The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter
LoveReading View on The Silent Wife A hard-hitting, fast-moving slicing wow of a book. An old case is reopened when new evidence appears, and a violent predator hunts his next victim. It’s no secret that I get jump-up-and-down excited about Karin Slaughter’s novels. She has the most wonderful ability to pitch full-on sharp storytelling and blasts of drama alongside thoughtfully handled social issues and relationship dilemmas.
Death of a Mermaid by Lesley Thomson

When Freddy returns home after 22 years she knows that old childhood alliances have deteriorated, so who can she trust when everything starts to go wrong? This is a standalone read from Lesley Thomson, if you love her successful Detective’s Daughter series, then you should definitely put this to the top of your reading list.
Awakening of Spies by Brian Landers
LoveReading View on Awakening of Spies Convincing and atmospheric, the first in the Dylan Series sets itself as a serious espionage thriller. Thomas Dylan joins the Defence Intelligence Staff as an analyst but finds himself in the hot seat when things go awry. I will admit that it took me a while to settle in as there is a lot of information to take on board. Once I had though, I thoroughly enjoyed this intricately plotted novel featuring a somewhat novice spy.

I’ve read her last two books, Jar of Hearts (paperback published in July 2019) and Little Secrets (paperback published in May 2020), both edgy and compelling thrillers chockablock full of suspense, they have gained the status of LoveReading Star Books.
Where We Belong by Anstey Harris
LoveReading View on Where We Belong Oh, this is almost too gorgeous for words, thoughtful and full of emotion, it’s a simply wonderful story that connected to my heart and soul. Cate Morris has no option other than to leave everything she knows and move to Hatters with her son Leo, will they be welcomed with open arms?
Of Ants and Dinosaurs by Cixin Liu
LoveReading View on Of Ants and Dinosaurs So, so readable, Of Ants and Dinosaurs with the lightest and brightest of touches, made my brain itch with its creativity and klaxon alarm. Perfect for readers from young adult on, this sets itself as a “satirical fable, a political allegory and ecological warning”. In a time long long ago ants and dinosaurs joined forces to build a magnificent civilisation, when doom threatens will the dinosaurs listen to the ants?
A Million Dreams by Dani Atkins
LoveReading View on A Million Dreams What a gorgeously emotional and heart-warming read this is. Maloney’s post-uni TEFL work led him to fall in love with Japan and his future wife Minori.
Sharks in the Time of Saviours by Kawai Strong Washburn
LoveReading View on Sharks in the Time of Saviours Ancient gods and the elemental spirit of an island are interwoven with modern reality in this remarkable debut that begins with a family impoverished by the decline of the sugar cane industry. In the pounding, poetic words of Augie, the father of the household: ”I was once the sugarcane.
Jeremiah's Bell by Denzil Meyrick
LoveReading View on Jeremiah's Bell Dark, gutsy, and smirky Tartan Noir. Secrets overflow and violence spills into the community when Alice Wenger arrives from America, Daley and Scott have a race on their hands to solve a long-standing mystery. This is the eighth in the DCI Daley thriller series (plus there are some short stories on offer too). The series started with the focus on the small town policing team before branching out beyond Kinloch.
One Split Second by Caroline Bond
LoveReading View on One Split Second Emotionally haunting, dramatic and provocative, yet ultimately this is a novel full of hope. On the day the car collides with a wall, five sets of parents attend hospital not knowing if their child has survived. What follows isn’t an easy read emotionally as death, turmoil and loss features heavily, but… but… I was completely gripped and couldn’t stop turning the pages.
The Girl from Widow Hills by Megan Miranda
LoveReading View on The Girl from Widow Hills An intriguing, pulsing, provocative mystery that really kept me on my toes. Olivia is affected by night terrors, her past comes back to haunt her when she wakes in the middle of the night to find herself standing over a body in her garden. We’ve reviewed and thoroughly enjoyed all of Megan Miranda’s novels at LoveReading. I particularly love the sharp teetering edge of the relationship that develops between the reader and the main characters.

Kommentar: Gammeldags teknologi gjorde det nemmere at lære it
