Letter to the editor: In support of Mayra Vega for Supervisor
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... It is refreshing to see a Yolo County Board of Supervisors candidate who has the interests of our community’s youth and young adults in mind. That candidate is Mayra Vega and I strongly encourage families and young adults to support her. As a Woodland City Councilmember, Mayra enthusiastically supported a City of Woodland partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Sacramento to open a clubhouse in the city.

As a current Yuba CCD Trustee for District No. 3 I have had the pleasure of working with Doug Harris on the Yuba CCD Board for close to three years. Doug has been a strong advocate for the Lake County Community, his experience and dedication have shown to be successful to keep Lake County in the forefront. Over the last few years there have been difficult decisions that have been made, Doug has shown true leadership with his insights and compassion in representing the Lake County community.
Letter to the editor: Elect Yolo County Supervisor Mary Sandy
It is my honor to write a letter in support of Supervisor Mary Sandy for her re-election. Mary Sandy has proven to be a leader that voters in District 3 can be proud of. Her genuine concern and command of matters that come in front of the supervisors, critical questions she asks along with her leadership style that is supportive and collaborative have made her an important member of the Yolo County Supervisors. Sandy is the first woman in 13 years to serve as a Yolo County supervisor.

Recent Daily Democrat articles on Dec. 9 and 22 regarding concerns from the Woodland Community College staff and community have caused some alarm. As one of your elected officials representing the city of Woodland on the Yuba Community College District Board, I concur with many of the feelings our WCC staff and residents have shared over the last year.

Ingraham said the flash, “Appeared miles away and I was unsure what could be happening. Later that day while listening to my transistor radio it was announced that an atomic bomb had detonated over Hiroshima, over 600 miles away. My thoughts were, what is an atomic bomb?
Quality preschool puts kids on the right path
In Yolo County, 69 percent of third-graders from low-income families (and 54 percent of all third-graders) are reading below grade level. According to First 5 California, “Research shows that students who start off behind tend to stay behind. Meanwhile, those who enter school properly prepared are 10 times more likely to meet state standards on third-grade standardized tests.” Children who do not read at grade level by the end of third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school.
