What does it mean to be a journalist?
To devote your life to the public good, to the truth, to the Socratic Method; to commit to questions and deadlines and observation, happily.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I carry a steno pad in the pocket of my blazer everywhere I go. Everyone has a story; it's my job to be trustworthy enough to hear it.
What's your favorite social network?
Bluesky is vibrant as of fall '23 but it still requires invites (Reach out!)-- can I say the Twitter of five years ago, please?
Who do you wish followed you?
Jon Carroll, one of my heroes; and the myriad editors and reporters of rural newspapers the country over. I'd love to buy you folks a drink.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
We had a great yearbook, and I devoted myself to that; Bret Harte High took home a national award for my work as copyeditor.
