Jill Abram’s Biography

Jill Abram, an esteemed board-certified psychiatrist from Indiana, boasts an impressive 38-year career marked by her unwavering commitment to healing and restoring communities, families, and individuals. Specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry, her work has seamlessly integrated direct care with collaboration alongside other health professionals to uphold the highest standards of psychiatric medicine.

Throughout her career, she has profoundly impacted countless lives. From 1988 to 1990, she was pivotal as the psychiatrist with the Homeless Mobile Team at Midtown Mental Center in Indianapolis. She then continued to enrich the mental health community by serving as the psychiatrist for the Child Team for Mental Health in Anderson, Indiana, until 1996. This period was followed by her entering private practice in Fishers, Indiana, while also serving at Pleasant Run Children's Home in Indianapolis, a historic orphanage.

Her journey included nearly seven years in private practice in Anderson, Indiana, where she also held significant roles as the adolescent psychiatrist at Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility and Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility. Additionally, she lent her psychiatric expertise as a consulting physician at Fortville Christian Youth Home.

Her distinguished career further extended to private practice in Indianapolis, roles at the Counseling Center Christian Theological Seminary, Family Counseling Center, and as a consulting adolescent psychiatrist at Richmond State Hospital. She also contributed to the Medical Staff Community Hospitals of Indianapolis. Moreover, she served as a consultant at the Boys and Girls Home of Alaska. She was part of the medical staff at North Star Hospital in Anchorage, aiding in the launch of psychiatric telemedicine services through the Four County Counseling Center in locations like Peru, Kokomo, and Logansport, Indiana.

Her selective professional engagements have included consulting roles with the Department of Mental Health to develop integrated care systems with the Department of Education and the Department of Families and Children, alongside contributions to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center. She was also an active participant in the Conscience Development Research and Study Group and a Trauma and Dissociation study group.

Jill Abram's academic accolades began with her graduation Summa Cum Laude from Hanover College, where she earned a B.A. with a major in Chemistry and minors in Biology and Psychology, receiving the "Long Citation for Outstanding Senior Woman." Her medical education continued at Indiana University School of Medicine, which included a research year and culminated in receiving the Academic Medicine Achievement Award. Her residency and fellowship were completed at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she was honored with the Golden Apple Award for her educational contributions in 1990. She completed her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship in June 1996.

Before retiring, she was licensed in both Indiana and Alaska and maintained certification with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Since 1991, she has been an esteemed member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, continually advancing her field through both practice and research.
