Opinions on topical issues from thought leaders, columnists and editors. Seagrass is brilliant. I know this because I study it. Much of my job is spent underwater, literally watching seagrass grow. But few people would have had the opportunity to experience seagrass in the same way, leading to what I call ‘seagrass blindness’. March 1st is World Seagrass Day. It was celebrated for the first time in 2023, to call attention to the many benefits and services that this ecosystem provides.

ON World Ocean Day yesterday, we celebrated the watery realm of our planet and shared heartfelt accounts of how the ocean has influenced our lives. We are surrounded by the South China Sea, the Straits of Malacca, the Straits of Johor, and the Sulu-Sulawesi Sea. In almost every facet of our lives, the ocean has a role to play in shaping it.
