Does Geelong's 'lifestyle' factor give them an unfair advantage for free agency signings?
#8 All inequalities and subsequent privileges must be acknowledged. You acknowledged one of them yourself in your post. The big smoke isn’t for everyone ‘that’s why Geelong exists.’ And you’re right, it’s not for everyone. But it’s for most people. That’s why it exists and it’s roughly 20 times bigger than Geelong and surrounds. This stack of free agents we’ve signed that have helped us stay competitive? It’s two players high and one of them has only been there for one completed season.
Sydney under Longmire
#16 Missing key forwards and backs, obviously you're not gonna go well.. He has always had the best of talent at his disposal. I mean in many ways, it's not too dissimilar to Leon Cameron and his time at GWS. Sydney right now have an extremely talented list. Gulden, Heeney, Papley, Warner, Florent, Mills, Blakey, Rampe, you can go and on and on. He's had arguably the greatest forward of the modern era. Not to mention quality defenders and a local academy which keeps on pumping through top-end talent.
West Coast's record against Geelong away from WA
#17 probably should’ve happened in 2007 Nah Port had us covered that year, we limped through the finals and lost in extra time to Collingwood without Judd, Cousins and Kerr, who were all done for the season. Was probably worst year to support the club ever (this year included!). Port just absolutely shat the bed in the most historical fashion of all time in the GF and have spent the next 15 years stranded in mediocrity.
Where’s the love for GWS?
Now the form side of the competition with 5 wins on the trot. Have arguably the biggest X factor player in the competition. Have beaten Adelaide at AO and Melbourne in those last 5 weeks. Had only lost by less than 2 kicks to Richmond, Geelong and St Kilda in the previous 3 weeks. Sitting equal 6th and only really have 2 more difficult games to come. Credit to Adam Kingsley in his very first season as coach where it’s due. EDIT: Beat the Cats. Thank you for correcting PhatBoy
Xenophobia
Originally posted by you_idiot The link works just fine for me. But FWIW, I've never bought into these alleged "non-Victorian clubs conspiracy theory" arguments. Look, it's a competition-- and the AFL wanted teams from outside Victoria to participate in a national competition.
Gold Coast are scary
#3 Took a massive scalp didn't they. Lol'd Kind of disagree with OP's assessment. If you watched them the week before against Freo, they just got completely lost against our structures. Individually they are extremely talented but that will only get them so far if they can't structure up properly against good zones and pressure.
Boomer saying he'll be the last to play 400 games
#1 In your opinion do you think he will be right about his statement, or can you see another current/future player reaching the milestone? The only other players with over 300 games right now are Goodes, Pavlich and Enright which imo will all retire this year with only a slim chance for Pav or Enright to go on the following year. Some other players that I think could possibly have a small chance of making the 400-club if they can stay healthy are Ablett, Mitchell, Bob Murphy, Bartel and Pendles.
Proposal to include premierships dating back to 1870 gathering pace
#18 Sounds like it’s not enough for clubs to be proud of their own past achievements - they really need validation from everyone else. News flash - no one cares past the current season!
