Why did you become a journalist?

Writing was my best skill. Not good enough for a novelist.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

A series, mostly penned by Ken Wells, on new technology that's changing power grids the most in a century.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

None. Anything I know now will be obsolete by the time they start work.

Fake accident report on a wrecked police chief's car

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

Pretty much anything that doesn't reflect on the value of a publicly traded security. That's what I cover at Bloomberg.

That oil prices matter to electric utilities.
