Ah, there's so much contention on this site. For good reasons, certainly. And some narcissism. So here's something that I, an old-timer, bear in mind.
Riding Songs... Chime in!
Of course, it's a speaker or only in one ear. Let's not devolve into a debate on how we listen to tunes, k? Ok, that said. I have a "cadence mix" I used to use when I did training rides. What music makes you happy when you ride? I'll throw a few out there - I like listening to ELO e.g. "Turn to Stone", "Livin' Thing", "Don't Bring Me Down", "Mr. Blue Sky" Tags: Share Tweet Facebook Facebook Views: 388 ▶ Reply to This

Temporary Flyover Failure
For those of you coming down the temporary Flyover ramp onto the existing path, beware of this trench. It's deeper than it looks, filled with water, and with the current configuration, cyclists traveling South will pass over it almost in parallel. I witnessed a man get taken down on his 28 tires last night. Don't get trenched! Added photos with a Divvy tire for reference. Tags: Share Tweet Facebook Facebook Views: 194 ▶ Reply to This

Mayoral Candidates - Who Is Bike Savvy? Thoughts?
I think that police accountability is one issue that is not unrelated to bike advocacy. COPA has had multiple interactions the past so many years, but in some ways it's just a rebranding of the same flawed structure. They ultimately make a recommendation and the real power is in the police board. When I see lack of enforcement of bike lane regulations, lack of prosecution of drivers who attack or run over bikers, I see the harm done by lack of accountability.

March Bad-Weather Case of Crabcakes
I'm all kinds of crabby. Tired of being cold. Tired of not being able to feel my face. And desperate for some sunshine. Things that have added to my mood? 1. Able-bodied pedestrians hogging the elevator (I am required to use w a bike) when I JUST missed it (making me wait 5 more minutes in the cold) and no one moved to reopen the doors. After I wished I had yelled, "You are all going to HELL!" but alas, that's a little too mean for me. 2.

An attempt to steal the bicycle in Downtown
From Amber Crain: Chicagoans... a few months ago my boyfriend's bike was stolen from outside his downtown office in the loop despite being locked with a kryptonite u-lock. He got a new bike, the strongest u-lock available and a chain lock. Last week, someone attempted to steal his bike again. Below is some video footage. The thief wore a yellow "official looking" public service coat while using an angle grinder with sparks flying.
Bike thieves, one of the lowest forms of life
So now I see that they're breaking into shops and taking the cream of the crop. This must really be catastrophic for the owners, who deserve a lot better and give a lot to the community. Another reason why I tend to like cats more than people, present company excepted. Block Club story Tags: Share Tweet Facebook Facebook Views: 3 ▶ Reply to This
Epic!
I'd love to hear about the no-doubt epic rides people took this week. It was really rough out there, at least on my level.
Mayoral Candidate Dorthy Brown
I'm not sure why anyone would think their property taxes should fund a private, exclusive boat parking spot in a Chicago Park District harbor, so I assume you're just comparing the state registration fee, which the Illinois DNR collects? The issue I have with this comparison is that a boat is a luxury item used exclusively for recreational purposes. If you can't afford the $60 annual registration for your $50,000 Sea Ray, you just don't get to go boating on the weekends anymore.
Mayoral Candidate Dorthy Brown
Well, there's not much to like - it's just more money for me to shell out. However it is consistent with all sorts of use fees that get collected for boaters, people doing non-commercial wedding photography in the park district (I was amazed) picnic permits, motorcycle city sticker, tax on my house, car city sticker, driveway fee, dog tag, airport fee, the increased cell phone tax, etc. etc.
Convertible cargo bike?
My sister-in-law sent me this link to a Kickstarter project. It looks interesting, but I have no experience with cargo bikes. Any thoughts? Convercycle Tags: Share Tweet Facebook Facebook Views: 16 ▶ Reply to This
