Jiten Mehta’s Biography
Jiten Mehta is a Maryland-based accountant with over 30 years of experience in tax preparation, financial reporting, and client advisement. He holds a law degree from the Government Law College in Mumbai and is a Chartered Accountant through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He is registered with the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy and has worked with individuals as well as businesses across different industries. Since 2012, he has been serving clients through My Tax Accounting & Business Service, LLC, where he provides consistent and structured financial services.
His academic journey began in Mumbai, where he pursued law and accountancy. He joined the Government Law College in 1982 and completed his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1987. During his legal studies, his interest in financial systems grew stronger, leading him to pursue the Chartered Accountant qualification. He later earned an LLM from the University of Baltimore and also took additional classes at UDC to expand his knowledge.
He began his career at Furgussion and Co., a professional services firm in Mumbai. For three years, he worked closely with a range of clients, assisting with bookkeeping, tax filings, and audits. This experience introduced him to compliance requirements, reporting practices, and financial record maintenance. During this time, he also developed the habit of reviewing each calculation and document carefully before submission, a professional practice that he has maintained throughout his career.
After gaining valuable experience in India, he moved to the United States and settled in Takoma Park, Maryland. Adjusting to a new financial and tax system required focus, but his background helped him adapt effectively. In 2001, he joined Allstate Insurance, where he spent a year working with insurance policies and client advisement. In 2006, he began working with H&R Block, where he remained for eight years. His role there involved assisting individuals and businesses with federal and state tax filings, covering both annual compliance and long-term planning.
Since 2012, he has been leading My Tax Accounting & Business Service, LLC. His responsibilities include tax planning, payroll processing, monthly reviews, quarterly reports, and audit documentation. He works with clients ranging from sole proprietors to corporations at different stages of growth. Many of these client relationships have lasted for decades, reflecting his consistent service and commitment. The firm also provides support with past taxes, nonprofit setup, business formation, and section 8 validation.
He continues to be registered with the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy and keeps updated with tax law changes and accounting standards. With his combined background in law and accountancy, he can approach financial matters with careful consideration of both compliance and planning.
Beyond his professional work, he offers guidance to international students, newcomers, and those adjusting to U.S. systems. He has also supported charitable organizations, including the Salvation Army, choosing contribution over recognition.
He maintains a disciplined lifestyle, following a vegetarian diet, practicing yoga and meditation, and staying active through walking and regular exercise. In his free time, he enjoys sports, chess, table tennis, and cricket.
