Letter: We are not a Christian country
I was saddened but not surprised with the recent Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v Wade. How could anyone be shocked when the court is now a religious one, at least that's how the conservative majority may see themselves. They forget, however, that not everyone is Christian and that America is not a Christian country.
Letter: Different beliefs
I was amazed to read Bruce Tucker’s opinion letter from your May 18 edition, and to say that I was shocked by his narrow-minded perspective is an understatement. Doesn’t he realize that there are many more religious beliefs in this country than just his Christian one? Mr. Tucker believes that life begins at the fertilization stage, which is his belief. To force his personal Biblical interpretations onto others is breaching the freedoms of anyone who believes differently, and it is just plain wrong.
Letter: My right to know
As a former classroom educator, I am concerned about the stand both school districts seem to be taking regarding COVID. I personally know of school staff, including classroom teachers, who refuse to get vaccinated. While they may see this refusal as their "right," in my opinion they are sadly misguided. It is their obligation to keep everyone they may come in contact with safe.
Letter: Thank you so much
A gigantic thank you to all who made our 1st annual nonprofits parking lot sale a huge success: Dolphin Theatre, Boys & Girls Club, Papa's Doggs, Bayside Coffee, Alternative Youth Activities, Bay Area 1st Step, Friends of the Coos Bay Public Library, Human Rights Advocates of Coos County, McKay's Empire Market, and all the folks who came by to shop. The Community Coalition of Empire Thanks all of you. See you next summer for our 2nd annual sale.
Letter: Thank you to the Coquille Tribal Community Fund
The Community Collation of Empire is very grateful, for the support that the Coquille Tribal Community Fund, to help continue and expand the flower basket program along lower Newmark in the Historic Empire District of Coos Bay is spring. The foundation support along with the efforts of the City of Coos Bay to water the baskets, continues and supports the many efforts by Empire community members to improve the Empire Historical District.
