Letter: In Minneapolis, efforts have little to do with immigration; it's political
To the editor, I was so hopeful when I saw the outpouring of clergy support for the people of Minneapolis, naively believing that our corrupt administration would have a difficult time labeling them as “paid agitators.” The people of Minneapolis are obeying God’s second commandment to treat others with kindness, compassion and respect, forming the core of Christian ethics.
Letter to the editor: SBA’s EIDL program lends aid after declared disasters; borrowers, take note
To the editor, The Small Business Administration approved 6,552 Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) in North Dakota, totaling over $745 million. In recent weeks I have heard several remarks about these loans. The EIDL program is designed to provide small businesses with working capital needed to overcome the negative financial impacts of a declared disaster. The operative word is loans. The EIDL program is a loan program with a 30-year maturity and an interest rate of 3.75% for most borrowers.
Letter to the editor: Disheartened to read that North Dakota is set to return federal funds
To the editor, It was disheartening to read that the state of North Dakota has decided to return to the federal government almost $150 million in rental support provided through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program. The past two years have been extremely difficult for our families, friends and neighbors. North Dakotans have felt the pain of lost loved ones, health crises, lost jobs and isolation, like millions of others in countries around the world.
Devils Lake mayor: Animosity, lack of cooperation plague health care in community Original
Devils Lake Mayor Dick Johnson is shown in this Grand Forks Herald file photo. Eric Hylden / Grand Forks Herald To the editor, I want to be clear that the following letter is not the opinion of the Devils Lake City Commission. I write this as a concerned resident of the city of Devils Lake and the Lake Region, along with other concerned citizens who have shared with me the same concerns.

Letter: It's time to open up and accept these new civil rights for LGBTQ+ students
Before writing this letter, I had to compose myself. I needed to find the right words to express the disappointment in Mayor Brandon Bochenski's choice of words via Facebook following a proposed policy by University of North Dakota officials. The UND policy offers inclusion to the LGBTQ+ community and recognizes students' preferred gender pronouns and names.
Letter: UND situation is negative for many
By Jody Sharp Today at 6:13 a.m. To the editor, I almost missed the piece documenting some of the positive actions and difficult decisions Mark Kennedy has faced as president of UND. I for one could not have survived, much less flourished, in such a hostile, divisive and deriding environment. I have always been a bit on the fence about UND, but following this most recent fiasco I can say without reservation that I am profoundly ashamed to be a two-time graduate of this university. Not to worry.
