Shoaaaaaling
The video the GoPro recorded this evening after work - riding north on Dearborn... the amount of unisex shoaling was so overwhelming... I actually yelled out on Dearborn and Whacker - SHOALERS! Almost every intersection had women and men and Divvy shoalers. Unisex. Tags: Share Tweet Facebook Facebook Views: 921 ▶ Reply to This
New Lakefront Path Pavement- Northside
So with all of the new pavement on the northside, I'm questioning on why they did not stripe all of the new pavement prior to this rapid cool down with our weather. Does anyone know what is going on because it is quite the clusterf and someone will seriously get hurt soon out there because it seems that no one knows what to do. Tags: ▶ Reply to This
Vote!
So much going on. So much to care about. And we have 2-wheeled magical machines to get us to the polls. Bring a lock. Celebrate afterwards with ice cream... Please vote on November 6th.
Air pollution masks
I'm so tired of buses and other diesel vehicles driving past, leaving a trail of lead and other nasty-smelling things. Has anyone tried any air pollution masks? Can anyone recommend/disrecommend any? Tags: ▶ Reply to This

Air pollution masks
Before buying anything, I'd google a bunch and get some ideas if you have any alternatives, or what the real risk is. I think we are most worried about the buses because you can see them, but most pollution is really really small, and so stinky as diesel is, it might not be the right risk to go after.

Women roar!
Mostly, I blame complacency for the results of the 2016 presidential election. Allegedly, too many people, suburban women in particular, stayed home in the last election cycle, assuming the outcome was preordained. Mid term elections in particular, tend to have overall lower turnout. But all that is behind us now, right?
Incredibly unsafe Left Turn Green Light @ Chicago & Wells
There is an incredibly unsafe configuration of the left turn green light at Chicago onto Wells. At 99% of intersections in Chicago, the left turn green light happens before the actual full on green light cycle for that street. This is not the case at Chicago/wells where the green left turn light happens after straightbound traffic gets a red light! I cant be the only cyclist who watches the light turn red the opposite direction and then start moving.
Will the 'Dutch Reach' Really Help?
Statistically, as far as texting driver's go, they are in the same category as those who are legally drunk. That's why its a crime. I'd be tempted to follow her and call the police. These people need to understand what's (who's) at risk here. One way to do that is to call them out, get them cited and make the public aware that we won't tolerate it. This is akin to the story of Jose Torres, who had the courage to step forward and call out Jason Van Dyke for the crime he committed.
Will the 'Dutch Reach' Really Help?
Another thing to throw in the fold, drivers who are texting. I had to ride south on Wabash from Adams because I had forgotten my wallet and keys. Got them, and headed north towards Wabash and E Harrison. As I am waiting for the light to turn green (was waiting next to construction on my way to Dearborn), there was a car on my right... light turns green and she went north! There, Wabash is where it turns to a southbound one way street. She was texting when I saw her. I turned left, went my merry way...
The daily commute
I'd like to propose a new topic of discussion where we can relate interesting experiences about our commute to and from work. Here's my first entry: My bike commute is along the LFT from roughly Foster Ave to downtown and back along the same route. On my ride home this evening, I passed a bunch of geese just south of Randolph, some of whom had the effrontery to be in the path as I was approaching. I quacked at them, as I normally do. I run into them frequently in this area.
Whiny CBS 2 Chicago Report on the Dearborn Bike Lane Remodeling
Slightly whiny and jaded report from CBS2's Derrick Blakley and comments from the never-bike-friendly Rob Johnson. "The concrete curbs make it much more difficult for vehicles to be able to enter and obstruct the bike lane," said Jim Merrell of the ATA. "The Dearborn bike lane is being upgraded from Polk Street to Kinzie and cost almost $1.2 million.

Tempted to start a new category
Got hit by an uber today. I was coming eastbound on Superior, making the turn onto southbound Wells. I had the light — hell, I even signaled! An Uber had just picked up a fare, facing northbound on Wells, just south of Superior. He wanted to be going southbound, so in true Uber fashion, he just pulled a U-turn... right into me as I was making the turn.
Cheers!
Hey Tom, I'm a big garlic fan. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the garlic link on that page. Inquiring minds want to know. Nice article though. I had to laugh. Everything in it is fairly obvious to us, and I think the author was trying to use some irony to make that point. I liked the EU PASTA project. Clearly inspired by the Italian contingent of the project, but I'm trying to cut down on carbs. Another good irony. Looking ahead a little bit, I'm struggling with the problem of bike rage.
Cheers!

In particular, the threads related to shoaling. This is an interesting subject that we need to explore in greater depth.
Cheers!
Got this in my inbox today from treehugger.com: “When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking.” ― Arthur Conan Doyle Tags: ▶ Reply to This
No, its not just your imagination...
On Tuesday evening, I rode north from work (I work in a clandestine business, across from The Art Institute) all the way up to the Chicago Mosaic School and back. On the way back, my significant other asked me to meet her after she was done with work, and since she works up that way, why not?

No, David, clearly you need help. Your multi personality car disorder must be addressed. Help that only a highly trained, seasoned professional psychoanalyst can provide. Yes, it will take years of therapy, and you will need to delve very deeply into the difficulties that you've faced throughout your tortured life (lives), possibly going back to the time when your mother ate some hot chilli peppers, and then cooled herself down with some butter pecan ice cream, while you were still within her womb.

This is a fun site that I like to browse once in a while. I actually researched some of the more interesting posts and have yet to find one that wasn't true. But that lead me to another question. What brand/model vehicles are driven by the most chill people?
The Navy Pier Flyover
An article about the proposed flyover near Navy Pier- sounds like a great idea and maybe there will be cash to make it a reality:
