The first parental unit a Goose named Brightbill (voiced by Kit Connor) sees is a Rozzum robot, soon to be nicknamed Roz (Lupita Nyong'o). The Classic Horror Film Board-The Disappearance of Flight 412 (Made-for-TV, NBC, 10/1/74)
I watched this before the recent UFO sightings here in Stephenville, Texas (about 50 miles southwest of my house), and I wasn't very impressed. I'm not a follower of UFO sightings, so I've apparently been out of the loop and didn't realize that they are still relevant to a lot of people and still occurring around the globe even if the news media has switched their attention to Britney Spears and/or who's gonna win the latest American Idol or Survivor.
The Classic Horror Film Board-RED ROOMS (2024) Serial killer psychological thriller
RED ROOMS (2024) – Filmmaker Pascal Plante's French Canadian thriller sets up masterfully. An accused serial killer, Ludovic Chevalier (Maxwell McCabe-Lokos), is on trial for the murder of three young girls, broadcasting his abominable crimes on the internet. Plante's screenplay begins with the Prosecutor (Natalie Tannous) delivering her opening statement in clear graphic detail.

The Classic Horror Film Board-FAVORITE FILMS OF 2024 - Genre and otherwise
MY BEST FILMS OF 2024 – Part One: The Runner-Ups: On a given day, several of these films could have made my Top 10. All are exceptional in some way. The Classic Horror Film Board-BIRD BOX, 2018 (S. Bier)
Even if it didn't come out in the same year as A QUIET PLACE, the similar, if to be fair, based on a prior book, Susanne Bier's BIRD BOX would still be a disappointing effort. Replacing sound with vision as the sensory device, BIRD BOX falls firmly in line with a long line of apocalyptic survivor tales, complete with the small isolated group of fellow 'survivors' who end up battling each other as much as the outside force.
The Classic Horror Film Board-Michael Schlesinger
Awful news. My sincere condolences to Michael's friends and family, especially our own Larry Blamire, who had a longtime working relationship and friendship with Mike. Michael posted on the CHFB under the username Precode, so he was indeed one of us. From Mark Evanier's blog today: My pal Mike Schlesinger died this morning…and movies have lost one of the best friends they ever had. I'm not sure I ever met anyone who loved them more…or knew more about them…or got so angry when they were mistreated.
The Classic Horror Film Board-NIGHTBITCH (2024) w/ Amy Adams
NIGHTBITCH (2024) Hulu. Marielle Heller's adaptation takes the term for a female dog quite literally. As in Rachel Yorder's book, a working woman (Amy Adams) quits her career to take care of her baby son (twins Arliegh & Emmett Snowden). Called only “Mother”, she was an artist in the big city who has moved to the 'burbs with her supportive but oblivious 'Husband' (Scoot McNairy).

The Classic Horror Film Board-ERASERHEAD (1977)
3191 this is copied from the net this review much better and more interesting than how i could tell about it....So begins David Lynch's first feature film, Eraserhead (1977), possibly the oddest and certainly one of the boldest films ever made. It's also one of the hardest to describe, partly because there is so little to compare it with and partly because it is so stark and so abstract.

FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT (2024) Well done documentary on the history of Jerry Lewis' legendary uncompleted THE DAY THE CLOWN CRIED (circa 1972). Over the decades, much of the speculation has focused on why Lewis never finished the film and why he didn't “allow” it to be shown.

The Classic Horror Film Board-THE LAST MAN ON EARTH (1964)
Recently saw this 1964 adaptation of Richard Matheson's I AM LEGEND for the very first time. Being a big fan of THE OMEGA MAN, Vincent Price and the original novel, I've long been curious to see it. Despite many reviews having mentioned how Price was miscast in the part, I went in expecting the opposite (since Vinnie usually delivers the goods). Well, I think he both is and isn't.
The Classic Horror Film Board-Michael Cole, 84
Sad news, but, based on some of the activities he admitted to in his autobiography, Cole was fortunate to have lived as long as he did. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv ... 236083123/ The obituary includes this passage: ‚ÄúBeing true to the spirit of the counterculture generation, they did not use weapons in the course of their jobs,‚ÄĚ Rebeka Knott wrote on the website¬†Groovy History. ‚ÄúThey were able to effectively bring criminals to justice with little or no violence.
The Classic Horror Film Board-Fight Club (1999)
Member 7,7861,838 Fight Club (1999) I never saw Fight Club when it came out, mainly because the BS macho culture it presented in previews is something that just does not appeal to me*. I also never realized that it could be construed as genre up until recently. By then, however, the movie's surprise was practically 'spoiled' for me. Mostly it was the Internet popular comment that it was Calvin n' Hobbes grown up.
The Classic Horror Film Board-Somewhere In Time (1980)
Try as I might, I couldn't find any other threads for this romantic (and tragic) time travel fantasy. Any fans of it on this board? OFFICIAL SITE I really appreciated a number of things about the film: 1) The weird romance is well played out. Kooky as it is, it made sense the way the romance came around, believably human. The actors all play it very well. 2) The coin in Reeve's pocket. That one little detail is so interesting. 3) Displaying obsession.
The Classic Horror Film Board-From Beyond the Grave (1974)
Member 7,7841,833 From Beyond the Grave (1974) The one Amicus Horror anthology I had missed so far turned out to be one of the best ones. They all have fun Horror moments, but more often than not the stories feel tired or derivative. This one has the most consistently good stories, and not a single one of them is a dud. I never seem to have had a chance to catch this one on TV, but I finally got the Blu-ray on that sale a few weeks ago.

The Classic Horror Film Board-ODDITY (Damian McCarthy, 2024) Irish shocker
ODDITY (2024) Damian McCarthy's Irish shocker centers on Dr. Timmins (Gwilym Lee) who works at a mental institute. OK, so, FINALLY.... I know I've only seen it once, a couple of months ago, at the flicks [Derby Quad to be precise], and I know full well that I should probably have written about it back then, when it was fresher in my mind. The Classic Horror Film Board-Altered States
22 minutes ago#412024-10-24T14:52+00:00 #478 Seen either in a sanitized version on ABC via WJLA Channel 7, in Washington, DC, or an unadulterated version via HBO or Showtime. I've only seen it once and after reading the thread I guess I'm long overdue for a revisit. I thought the effects were cool. The imagery, specifically throwing a crucifix into the mix, was a bit baffling. I distinctly remember my dad (who read lots of Arthur C. Clarke) and I each raising our eyebrow in puzzlement at that one.

The Classic Horror Film Board-The Monster Club (1980)
Jun 29, 2008#12008-06-29T13:44+00:00 Are there any other fans of this Amicus-esq horror anthology? Aside from the fact that this seems to be the last of the 60's/70's style anthology horrors, I think the film has two solid stories. The first, about a gentle fiend who whistles, is quite good overall - a little clunky in places, but in my opinion quite fun.
The Classic Horror Film Board-THE BEAST (2024, B.Bonello) AI meets Henry James. w/Lea Seydoux
THE BEAST (2024) – Henry James meets AI. Bertrand Bonello's very loose adaptation of James' novella “Beast In The Jungle” takes the kernel of the author's 80 page work and expands it into an 145 minute epic spanning three time frames some 130 years apart (Guillaume Bread and Benjamin Charbit co-wrote). Lea Seydoux plays Gabrielle across all three periods of the story. Her suitor is Louis (George McKay).

The Classic Horror Film Board-SPEAK NO EVIL (2022) and SPEAK NO EVIL (2024)
Who's seen both? I have not seen the U.S remake. Here's my take on the original: A nasty bit of business in the oddly burgeoning 'Travel nightmare' subgenre. A Danish couple, Bjorn (Morten Burian) and Louise (Sidsel Siem Koch), meet an overly friendly Dutch pair Patrick (Fedja van Huet) and Karin (Karina Smulders), in Tuscany. Each family has a young child. Some time later the Danes are invited to stay over for a weekend at Patrick's remote home in the Netherlands.

The Classic Horror Film Board-INSIDE OUT 2 (2024)
Didn't find a topic for this one, only the original. INSIDE OUT 2 (2024) – Truth be told, I wasn't the biggest fan of the original. The 'mechanics' of how the emotions worked overwhelmed the human story of Riley (voiced byKensington Tallman). INSIDE OUT 2 not only doesn't alter that, it seems to double down on it. The one potentially major shift is Riley's puberty kicking in. Unfortunately, by setting the entire movie in 3 or 4 days, there is little time to explore or expand on it.
The Classic Horror Film Board-Octaman
13 minutes ago#1252024-10-18T16:45+00:00 Writer-Director Harry Essex tried to recreate the basic template from THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON which he wrote the screenplay. A mutant half-man sea creature (this time an Octopus hybrid) wrecks havoc on a scientific expedition, grabbing the lone female, attacks their boat, baits and traps them, gets caught in a net etc. etc.. No underwater ballet between Pier Angeli and stuntman Read Morgan as the title beast (Morgan was no Ricou Browning!).

The Classic Horror Film Board-MY OLD ASS (Megan Park, 2024) Time Travel Coming Of Age tale
Member 4,6674,726 Megan Park's MY OLD ASS opens wide today. A definite recommend. The title is a bit off-putting, perhaps, but, it's a very well observed coming of age dramatic comedy with a sci-fi time travel gimmick. Park wisely doesn't lean too hard on the fantasy device. Maisy Stella and Aubrey Plaza are both terrific. more to come....
The Classic Horror Film Board-"A" New future of Movie Theater "projection"?!!!
I have seen “a” future of film exhibition. The Culver Theater in the L.A. area is one of two in the nation sporting 8K LED “projection”. In reality, it's not projected, it's a self-contained panel! In addition to 8K HDR screen, there are 4 4K Micro-LED screens and one standard DCP house. I'm a film purist. There's still nothing like a great 35mm or, even better, 70mm properly projected film print. 4K DCP and Laser projection have improved greatly over the years.

The Classic Horror Film Board-DREAM SCENARIO (2023) Nic Cage
Surprised there isn't a topic here for one of last year's fantasy which got some good acclaim. My take: Writer-Director Kristoffer Borgli's film reminds you of that dream you had which you thought was so intriguing – but, you can't quite remember the details. DREAM SCENARIO's has a fine hook: What if you people started having dreams about YOU? Even people you've never met? Paul Matthews (Nicolas Cage) is that man.
The Classic Horror Film Board-The Shout (1978)
19 minutes ago#222024-10-16T23:14+00:00 An arty psychological horror film adapted from Robert Graves' short story by Polish Director Jerzy Skolimosksi (DEEP END, EO) and writer Michael Austin. It begins at a mental hospital and is told largely in a deliberate flashback by Charles Crossley (Alan Bates), who relates a tale of how one of the patients, Anthony Fielding (John Hurt), was institutionalized after losing his wife, Rachel (Susannah York).
The Classic Horror Film Board-KRONOS (1957)
I love this movie, even though I wasnt overly impressed with it when I first saw it as a kid. The scene in which the main characters land a helicopter on top of the robot and look down into the inner workings of the machine is pretty awesome. However, I suddenly recenlty realized for the first time since seeing this movie almost 40 years ago that the basic concept in Kronos doesnt make a lick of sense.
