Over the past ten months, we have witnessed something close to a renaissance in behavioural science thinking and growing international recognition of its value in framing Covid-19 messaging to influence target behaviours of citizens and instigate social good. At IMPOWER, we welcome this shift having seen first-hand the positive impact applied behavioural science has had in public sector organisations; the benefits of which are equally apparent at a local as well as national level.
There is sometimes an assumption that demand management is a simply a way of diverting people away from local authority funded services in order to save money. However, while it is a key lever for improving financial sustainability, creating better outcomes for residents is fundamental to the way we approach demand management at IMPOWER. The savings we are most interested in are those that result from improving outcomes.
As part of IMPOWER’s Heroes of 2020, we would like to celebrate the huge achievements of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Change Champions; Annette MacDonald, Florence Johnson, Hayley Brown, Michelle Richardson and Nicole Fowler. In addition to their frontline social care roles, the five Change Champions have been working tirelessly to support the change programme since September.
