Editorial Assistant, The Dallas Morning News

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No, but I own one.

How is social media changing news?

For the worse.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Lois Lane

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Infrequently and by email.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Nothing special. Just a MacBook Pro and basic browser-based CMS.

Who do you wish followed you?

Bill Nye

Why did you become a journalist?

To do what I can shift the balance of power toward those who cannot stand up for themselves.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No. I was too busy playing golf competitively and being the concertmaster of the orchestra.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

An expose on the management of a high-rise apartment building for evicting a tenant in retaliation for speaking out about security issues.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Staying humble is the key to longevity in journalism. The ability to check your ego and keep learning will take you to new heights.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Outside.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Texas Parks & Wildlife Magazine
