1 Introduction Neuroscience has long sought to better understand how brains function. Recent breakthroughs in materials science and electrical engineering have enabled substantial progress in neural interfacing devices. These multifunctional and multimodal neural probes to dissect neural circuits and cellular signaling in the nervous system are becoming critical to advance our understanding of the mammalian brain due to their versatility and use in freely moving animals.
