Associate Professor passes
Chancellor Corey King, Provost John Chenoweth, and Associate Provost Robin Fox It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the death of a Warhawk family member. Kelly Hatch, associate professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, passed away Tuesday, March 21, after a battle with cancer. Kelly came to UW-Whitewater in 2015 as an associate lecturer, and later served as assistant professor and most recently as associate professor.
‘Accreditation is a testament to the work of the entire community’
UWW Reaccreditation Update It is my pleasure to inform you that, thanks to your hard work and commitment, UW-Whitewater has received across-the-board affirmation of accreditation in all categories from the Higher Learning Commission. This accreditation is testament to the work of the entire community—staff, faculty, students, alumni, and community. What a privilege it is to work in such a community, and how satisfying to see that reflected by the site visitors.
We aim to listen, learn and lead
Dear UW-Whitewater community, I am writing to share that Associate Vice Chancellor Kenny Yarbrough will be leaving UW-Whitewater in January. Prior to this departure, he will transition into the Office of the Chancellor to assist us with special projects. We welcome Kenny to the Chancellor’s team, thank him for his service, and wish him well. In turn, Vanessa Perez will lead the Division of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Support Programs for the foreseeable future.
Chancellor's News on UW-Platteville
Celebrating Students W/ Disabilities! Dear faculty, staff and students, The University of Wisconsin System has announced that UW-Platteville will be transitioning the academic programs at its Richland branch campus to either its main Platteville campus or Baraboo campus next fall. The Richland branch campus enrolls only 60 students, by far the lowest of any of the branch campuses, and this level of enrollment was not sustainable for vibrant academic programs.
A year of transformation ahead
John Chenoweth, Interim Chancellor Dear Warhawks, I’m thrilled to welcome you to the 2022-23 academic year. When I think back on my first days as a college freshman, I can remember experiencing a range of emotions from excitement to anticipation, to wonder and confusion. And yes, even a few nerves. But as I start this year as a campus leader, I am filled with confidence and optimism. I believe in you and our university and I know this will be our best year yet.
Power of Personality Politics: Can Uganda’s Bobi Wine Sustain a Social Movement?
Bobi Wine believes he was supposed to be a dead man. The Ugandan musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu—popularly known as Bobi Wine—was campaigning for an opposition candidate in northwest Uganda when his driver Yasin Kawuma was shot dead in their vehicle on August 13, 2018. “My driver was shot dead and the target was me,” Bobi Wine said, alleging that police shot and killed Kawuma. Police has shot my driver dead thinking they've shot at me.
