If culture can neither thrive nor survive without religion, then a cultural conservative, which Russell Kirk claims is the most imaginative of conservatives, must fight to preserve the religious foundations of his culture.
Reflections on Hilaire Belloc’s "Essay on the Restoration of Property"
While Hilaire Belloc often describes the type of economy he is advocating as “distributist,” he also refers to it as “proprietary,” due to the idea that a truly free economy requires the widest distribution of private property as possible.

In acknowledgement of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I wish to raise the question, based on Dr. King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” as to when, if ever, as well as to what extent, it is appropriate to defy the rule of law.
An Imaginative Conservative? - The Imaginative Conservative
Apropos of the title of this online journal, I think it appropriate to offer a few Russell Kirk—inspired refections as to what it means to be an “imaginative conservative.” In his essay, “The Cultural Conservative,” found in Politics of Prudence, Russell Kirk explains what it is to be an imaginative conservative, particularly in relation to conservatives of other stripes.
Can Virtue Be Taught?
I wish to offer some thoughts and encourage discussion on the question of whether education in general and a liberal arts education, in particular, can or should teach persons to be virtuous. Both John Henry Newman in his Idea of a University, as well as Russell Kirk, in an essay entitled “Can Virtue Be Taught?” offer what might be considered surprising answers.

An Evil Means to a Good End? Belloc’s "Essay on the Restoration of Property”
I ended my last reflection on Hilaire Belloc’s An Essay on the Restoration of Property by asking whether the government redistribution of property is the only way to make the transition from a non-proprietary state to a proprietary one, and if so, whether this would be a permissible means to achieve the good end of economic freedom that a more wide-spread control of the means of production by families would, according to Belloc, produce.
Reflections on Hilaire Belloc’s "Essay on the Restoration of Property" ~ The Imaginative Conservative
