We're Not Going To Be The American Idiots

We're Not Going To Be The American Idiots

The Sun — GREEN Day say they are staging a giant gig in Scotland on the 4th of July because they couldn’t face an Independence Day in the US with Donald Trump as President. The chart-topping band have already endured a backlash from Trump supporters after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong chanted “No Trump! No KKK! No Fascist USA!” at the American Music Awards in November. Now Armstrong and bandmates Mike Dirnt and Tre? Cool say they expect American Independence Day to be hijacked by “racist and xenophobic” Trump supporters. Speaking days ahead of Trump’s inauguration as the 45th President of the United States tomorrow, Green Day told The Scottish Sun: “Honestly, a lot of people love the 4th of July, but it is basically just an excuse to get drunk and wear American flags. “It is appropriate for us NOT to be in America on Independence Day with who we’ve gone and elected. “Electing Trump gives the racists and the xenophobes a voice and an excuse.”

John Dingwall looks back at 35 years with the stars

Scottish Daily Record — IT'S hard to believe that I'm celebrating the 35th anniversary of my career as a music journalist. I've travelled the world with the greatest rock and pop stars as well as Hollywood actors, supermodels and occasional sporting legends. But it all began when I went to see two cult bands, The Fall and The Cramps, play a double header in March 1980 at Glasgow's College of Technology. There with pals Sock and Dee, we decided to start a fanzine after The Fall's blistering set and that our first interview should be frontman Mark E Smith.

Live at Dingwall's: Watch out our exclusive Simple Minds performance

Scottish Daily Record — SIMPLE Minds have just bagged the prestigious Q Inspiration award and are back with their best album in 25 years but frontman Jim Kerr admitted the band wouldn't have made it without the help of family. Though Big Music has been universally hailed as a return to form for Scotland's most successful rock group, Jim is keeping his feet on the ground. He said: "If you are lucky enough to have had success, then you can be assured that when the next generation come along you will be history." The album is dedicated to Jim's mum and lead guitarist Charlie's Burchill's dad.

James Bond would fight to save the union, says Sir Roger Moore

Scottish Daily Record — HE may be a lifelong Tory but Sir Roger Moore has no intention of joining English celebrities backing the Better Together campaign. As the referendum approaches, however, he is in no doubt where his old character James Bond's loyalties would lie. "I'm not supposed to cast thoughts either way," said the actor, who played 007 in seven films. "I know my fellow Bond, Sean Connery, is all for it and I'm not going to argue with Sean, who is stronger and younger than I am. "But good God, Bond would be for the UK staying together as he works for Her Majesty."

John and Annie in Malawi

John and Annie in Malawi

Scottish Daily Record — THE children of the Kaguvu village smile broadly and roar with laughter when they see their own faces staring back at them in the camera's LCD screen. For these kids, a great many of them orphaned, it is the first time they have seen their own image. Even in the 21st century, a mirror is a luxury in a community where basic essentials such as food, decent clothing and clean water are hard to come by in villages just like this one across Malawi.

Exclusive: We go on tour with Hollywood star Billy Bob Thornton

Scottish Daily Record — NORMALLY what goes on tour stays on tour ... but when you're on the road with Billy Bob Thornton And The Boxmasters, you just have to tell someone. I met up with the movie icon and his band before they played an exclusive party at the 700-capacity Smokin' Lounge, as part of Austin's annual South by South West music festival. So exclusive, in fact, that I stood beside movie star Matthew McConaughey and his Brazilian girlfriend, Camila Alves, during the show. Everybody recognises five-times married Billy Bob, credited W.R. Thornton on his records, from his movie roles and as the ex-husband of Angelina Jolie.
