John Gendall’s Biography

John Gendall is a New York-based writer specializing in architecture, landscape architecture, and cities. He works with a range of publications, including The New York Times, Architectural Digest, newyorker.com, Wallpaper*, and Artforum. He was a contributing author to The Phaidon Atlas of 21st Century World Architecture.

As a communications and editorial consultant, he partners with design firms, foundations, and organizations, including Harvard Graduate School of Design, the Knight Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In this work, he has addressed climate resilience, social equity, and sustainable development.

John has taught at Harvard Graduate School of Design, Pratt Institute, and Parsons The New School for Design. He studied architectural history at Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he earned a Masters in Design Studies with Distinction.
