Gravitational resedimentation as a fundamental process in filling fjords: Lessons from outcrops from a late Palaeozoic fjord in Namibia
The stratigraphic architecture of fjords is complicated due to the delicate interplay between ice dynamics, sediment supply, relative sea-level fluctuations and slope failures. Glaciogenic sediment is prone to failure and to be carried downslope to the fjord floor through the entire spectrum of mass movements and subaqueous density flows, as the unstable paraglacial submarine landscape moves toward stability.

Measuring the accuracy of the reappraisal and appealing your value
If you have had the opportunity to attend a Townhall meeting, then you are aware of the scrutiny a reappraisal of property receives both internally and through the audit process by the State of Tennessee. One of the primary differences between a single-property appraisal versus an ad valorem mass appraisal is the statistical analysis a mass appraisal must pass to ensure uniformity and equity.
Mass appraisal demystified
Ever wondered how the Assessor of Property determines the value of your home during the reappraisal cycle? Do they really throw darts at a dartboard? Or use the spin the wheel methodology to determine the value? Neither could be further from the truth. Assessors work with a specialized framework of “ad valorem” valuations. Ad valorem simply means “according to value” and that value is defined by the state constitution through the classification process.
A look at Sumner County’s real estate market
The property owners in Sumner County have enjoyed significant property value appreciation since the last reappraisal in 2014 and it is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. While the office can make certain assumptions based on current trends, it is best to validate those assumptions through research.
Tax assessor: We value Sumner County
Over the past five years, Sumner County has experienced significant growth and home value appreciation. As we enter the final year of our five-year revaluation program, the assessor’s office is statutorily obligated to accurately report the current market value of real property in Sumner County with the primary goal of fairness and equity. The current market is valued at $15.8 billion with approximately 81,800 parcels.
Restore the Voice
As the smoke clears from a contentious political primary, we see a positive trend emerging; that being the advent of advocacy groups to address a lack of transparency in our local government and pursue causes that are important to the group. Transparency is an easy concept to banter around, but achieving transparency requires a cultural shift in governance towards citizen-engaged policymaking.
