What’s on the horizon for smart restroom solutions?
Smart restroom technology is now well into its early adoption phase, and more and more facilities are leaning into the opportunity to leverage data to improve their customer experience and optimize their cleaning program. As each new customer ultimately achieves successful deployment, additional facilities in various segments are buying into the value proposition.
Three prevailing value drivers of smart restroom technology
Smart technology is not only a common phrase within the facility management field; today it is virtually ubiquitous with optimized facility operations. Over the last several decades, facility managers and building services contractors have deployed and integrated smart solutions for everything from HVAC, lighting, and inventory control to disaster management, security, and building occupancy, helping to advance smart buildings from concept to reality.
Adapting to New Restroom Solutions
Smart restroom technology is no longer the future—it is the here and now—so accepting its role in day-to-day life is not optional. For facility managers, particularly those who do not consider themselves tech-savvy, this reality can be intimidating. Fortunately, a good technology partner will work with facility managers and do most of the heavy lifting needed for implementing smart technology.

Business network assists Gardnerville frame maker
As a "starving artist" in New York City, Greg Drinkwine spent a lot of time in the American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He greatly admired the exceptional beauty and craftsmanship of American Arts and Crafts frames. He thought he'd like to get some of his own work similarly framed and asked where the frames came from. He went to Lowy's in NYC and when he got the estimate, he realized he'd have to make the frames himself.

John Strom: Doing more of what you do best
I recently published a book title Maximizing Your ROPI — Return on your People Investment (ROpI). It's about doing the most important and most challenging part of a manager's job — working with your people! In the book I talk about how to coach people more effectively and how to get people to take action using questions.
ASK-ADD coaching can improve team performance
Coaching is any action that influences future performance. The goal is to get consistent excellent performance. Everyone can benefit from coaching whether it's bringing below standard performance up to standard, making improvements on average performance or taking high performance up as high as it can go.
John Strom: Making decisions in business
The title of this article seems simple enough. Yet, making decisions — good decisions — is really a complicated process. As a leader/manager, it’s important to make decisions the right way as the cost of wrong decisions can be expensive. And the benefits of the right decisions are equally impactful in a positive way! Decisions in most business are made quickly without a lot of thought. Managers can see what needs to be done and are quick to just do it. This works most of the time.
John Strom: What people expect from their manager
Most managers don’t give much thought to what their people expect of them as their manager. You think about this more in terms of what you expect the person managing you should be doing for you. Am I right about this? And I know most managers don’t spend a lot of time asking their people what they expect him/her to do as their manager! I know I wasn’t asked this more than maybe two or three times in my entire work life (and I’ve been working for a long time!).
