Cal rowing looks to take back Pac-12 championship from Washington
The classic rivalry between the Bears and the Huskies, a staple for the Pac-12 Rowing Championships, will reignite this Sunday as Cal’s men’s and women’s rowing teams will both try to snap Washington’s two-year winning streak at the Pac-12s. For the past 58 years, the men’s Pac-12 Rowing Championships have witnessed a hard-fought struggle between the Bears and the Huskies.
Cal women’s rowing drops Big Row to Stanford for first time since 2014
For the first time since 2014, No. 3 Cal women’s rowing was unable to dominate No. 2 Stanford in this year’s edition of the annual Big Row. For the past four seasons, the Bears have been dominated the meet, but this year, the Cardinal were able to hold their own in the waters.
2 challenging tests await Cal women's rowing in Washington, Stanford
After the men’s team had a disappointing run on the Montlake Cut in Seattle, Cal’s defending NCAA champion and No. 3-ranked women’s rowing team is looking to test its speed against last year’s Pac-12 champions and the current No.1-ranked crew from Washington. On Saturday, the Bears are traveling north to try and assert the same dominance they showed last year and dethrone the Huskies on their own waters. This year marks the 43rd California-Washington women’s dual.
No. 4 Cal men's rowing trails No. 2 Washington, finds redemption later
Hot off a sweep at the annual Stanford Invitational on April 13, Cal men’s rowing had a busy weekend with boats in Washington on Saturday and in Oregon the next day. Just as the No. 4 Bears had looked like they were about to return to their winning ways after topping No. 22 Hobart College and No. 14 Wisconsin at Redwood Shores last week, Cal was unable to climb the rankings or pass its former IRA championship rivals as the team challenged No. 2-ranked Washington.
Cal rowing finds success in both Stanford and Lake Natoma invitationals
One week ago, the Bears were handed a mixed bag of successes in their races against nationally ranked competition at this year’s San Diego Crew Classic. Last weekend, Cal rowing witnessed a return to form as the men swept the Stanford Invitational and the women displayed some dominant performances during the Lake Natoma Invitational. After falling short to Yale in San Diego, the men were looking for redemption against other high-ranking crews at this year’s Stanford Invitational.
Bears face ranked challengers at Stanford and Lake Natoma invitationals
After wrapping up at the San Diego Crew Classic, the Bears are back in the water and hoping to return to the top of the leaderboards in two events: the men’s team at the Stanford Invitational in Redwood Shores, California, and the women’s team at the Lake Natoma Invitational in Gold River, California. On Saturday and Sunday, Stanford will host its annual invitational, welcoming crews from Hobart College, Oregon State, Santa Clara, UC Davis, Wisconsin and Cal.
Cal men’s, women’s rowing teams meet to take on San Diego Crew Classic
On Saturday, April 6, both Cal men’s and women’s rowing teams are meeting to participate in 2019’s San Diego Crew Classic. Both crews were wildly successful in last year’s event, with the men’s team taking first place in the Men’s Collegiate 2V Sharp Memorial Cup and the Men’s Collegiate Varsity Copley Cup Invitational, while the women’s team dominated both the Women’s Collegiate Varsity Jessop-Whittier Cup Invitational and took home the Women’s Collegiate 2V Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy.
Cal men's rowing steams into spring season under new head coach
After months of training and preparation for the spring season, the Bears are back on the water. The Cal men’s rowing team kicked off its spring campaign March 2, winning races both in the deserts of sunny Las Vegas at the Lake Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational and in the midst of the pouring rain and rushing wind that met them in Newport Beach at the UC Challenge Cup, which was hosted by UC Irvine. In Nevada, the Bears swept their competition, earning first place in all their races.
