Using the phone to call someone up.
Why did you become a journalist?
Since I was a kid, I had an insatiable need for knowledge and always wanted to know more. Now I cover what I find compelling.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes, reporting and layout.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Do the hard work and the sourcing, ask many questions and then let the subject speak - you'll get a lot of great quotes once they open up.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Mornings via email.
What's your favorite drink?
A cold brew coffee, followed by a glass - or two - of champagne...
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
driving a car aimlessness or doing Yoga, but not at the same time!
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I get about 30 different trade journals on some esoteric subjects. I want to learn about things I have no domain expertise with.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That being a lifestyle journo is all fun and games - I mean it is - but those fun and games are some hard work.
