The Politically Correct Non-leader
Every generation of politicians had those men or women who held office because of some other reason besides deserving the position. Sometimes they were yes people, who went along with the powers in charge. Other times it was heritage and money that held them in place. History speaks of leaders who made a great difference, while it seldom speaks of those who took up space. So was the life of Richard Bassett. He was one who never risked himself.
Roger Sherman - Demander of Rights
One of the more famous quotes by Roger Sherman should be taught in every history class in America, "Sad will be the day when the American people forget their traditions and their history, and no longer remember that the country they love, the institutions they cherish, and the freedoms they hope to preserve, were born from the throes of armed resistance to tyranny, and nursed in the rugged arms of fearless men." A man born in 1721 realized the danger of a country who neglects its history.
Patrick Henry - The Statesman
One of the greatest calls to arms in history was "Give me liberty or give me death!" Known as one of, if not the greatest orator of his generation, Patrick Henry was captivating. Thomas Jefferson, who was not on friendly terms with Henry said, "Great indeed; such as I have never heard from any other man.
The Scholarly Founding Father
The second President of the United States was a thoughtful, brilliant scholar by the name of John Adams. His education started at an early age at home where he learned to read by the age of four. He attended Harvard College at the age of fifteen. He worked hard to be the best student possible. He loved farming and only went to school in elementary years because his father forced him. He wanted a better life for John than he had known. He loved farming, a passion which continued throughout his life.
An Extra-ordinary Founding Father
Thomas Jefferson referred to Samuel Adams as "the fountain of our important measures." He was also called the "patriarch of liberty" because of his strong stand against English rule. He did as much or more than any person to push the cause of liberty forward. He was thought to be one of the main instigators of the Boston Tea Party. After the revolution he was more popular and famous in Europe than his cousin John who would later become president.
Thomas Jefferson - Patriot Extraordinaire
Thomas Jefferson is, and rightfully so, be directly connected to the Declaration of Independence. The controversies come from his ideology about the relations between church and state. It is odd that we get so fixated on that one issue and miss the genius of this patriot. He was born about 5 miles out of Charlottesville, Virginia in 1743. His family was hard-working God fearing people. They instilled in Thomas a love for reading and learning.
Benjamin Franklin - The Renaissance Man
He was an author, publisher, printer, editor, scientist, philosopher, thinker, military commander, delegate to the Continental Congress, signer of the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Minister (ambassador) to England and later France, governor of Pennsylvania, and delegate to the Constitutional Convention. One of his biographers gave him the title as a harmonious human multitude. Even though Mr. Franklin had a strict religious background he never confessed any religion as an adult.
Gouverneur Morris - A Constitutional Author
Who spoke more times at the Constitutional Convention than anyone else? Who drafted and was then responsible for the wording of the Constitution? The Founding Father who fills this role was Gouverneur Morris. He spoke 173 times on the Convention floor. As the chair of the Committee on Style Morris was responsible for much of the wording of the Constitution. He had an accident when he was young man of twenty-four and lost a leg.
The First Chief Justice
History has been written and John Jay came out with the title one of the three pillars of American political greatness. He along with George Washington and Alexander Hamilton hold this distinction. He was one of our great patriots and statesmen. His defining trait was his commitment to the Christian faith. The descriptor of Christian educated all the ideals of his life. He was only twenty-nine when he became a delegate to the Continental Congress.
John Witherspoon - The Academic
John Witherspoon is not one of the best-known Founding Fathers. Yet, he was one of the great influencers during the days before and just after the Revolutionary War. He came to America from Scotland to be the President of the College of New Jersey, we now know it as Princeton. He has been given the title of being the man who shaped the men who laid the foundations of America. Mr. Witherspoon went to Edinburgh University at the age of thirteen. It took him only three years to achieve a Masters in Art.
Do You Want to Be Here
The definition of drudgery would have to be working without finding any joy or pleasure in the experience. Winners never come from the mire of drudgery. It steals energy and passion. People who find their work like this should find a more fulfilling occupation. To feel as if a job is dragging you down would create weariness that need not be. Leaders would not want to feel that way about their position nor do those who work under them. Some think that joy is found in the destination.

It's the only five-star rated hotel in the entire state of Minnesota, and it just recently celebrated its 6 month anniversary. You might be wondering (like I was) just what makes a hotel a 'five-star' hotel? Well, here's the definition, according to the Five Star Alliance, a luxury hotel site: "Five-star hotels are properties that offer their guests the highest levels of luxury through personalized services, a vast range of amenities, and sophisticated accommodations," the site said.
