Lodged in the farthest corner of my closet, I uncovered a dusty but well-preserved copy of the December 2008 issue of Rolling Stone. It’s a time capsule into a by-gone era that wasn’t too long ago. The cover features a giggling Britney Spears and a headline that plays on the Obama campaign slogan: “Yes She Can!” The self-diagnosed ‘Hot Issue!’ advertises stories about Twilight’s sexy vampires, Gossip Girls’ sensational actresses, and countless glossy photos of rock stars.
American conservatism at times forgets her first principles, the most oft-forgotten of which is hierarchy. Nowhere is this more visible than in education. If we want to fix the issues with education, then not every student will excel. By failing to respect the healthy necessity of failing those who are not fit to progress, all we do is degrade the credentials and educational experience of those who genuinely are fit. kA 4=2DDlQHA\3=@4<\A2C28C2A9Qm%96 @C:8:?
