Setting Up Tailwind CSS in a New Rails 8 App
Recently, I needed to get Tailwind CSS running on a new Rails 8 app. Here’s how I got everything set up! 1. Create Your Rails App Start by creating a new Rails app using the rails new command: rails new tailwindcss_demo Rails provides a shortcut by allowing you to pass the --css=tailwind option to rails new, which automatically sets up Tailwind. However, in my case, I already had a working Rails app and needed to add Tailwind manually. That’s what I’ll focus on here. 2.
Using Chromedriver to create PDFs with ruby
Generating PDFs from HTML is a common challenge in web development, especially when maintaining precise layouts and styling. Whether it's invoices, reports, or dynamically generated documents, developers need reliable tools to convert HTML to PDFs accurately. There are many tools out there to solve it. Recently, I worked on html2pdf_chrome, a Ruby gem that wraps ChromeDriver to generate PDFs, and I learned a lot in the process.
How to write on a PDF using Ruby
If you’ve ever needed to programmatically add text to a PDF in Ruby, then you know how tricky it can be. PDFs are complex, and finding tools that are both effective and up-to-date can be a challenge. Many guides rely on deprecated tools or outdated information.
Add 1080p TV device frame
February 27, 2024, 9:33pm 1 [> Please search for existing topics before posting! Press at the upper right to search.] Hi there! I’m wondering if there’s a reason why the only option for a TV device frame is 1280x720 when the standard for TV app design is 1920x1080 (at least for Apple’s tvOS). I found that this question was discussed here in 2022, but the thread has closed and 1280 remains the only TV device frame size.
Strange figma bugs.
April 29, 2024, 2:04pm 1 Strange Figma bugs. The right menu does not respond. You change 1 color, and all the project colors change to red. It is NOT possible to change the fill, transparency and dimensions and much more. The desktop and online versions do not work the same way.
Can a parent component's properties control the properties of a nested component instance?
I’m wondering if there’s a way to do this using variables (or any other means). Here’s what I’m trying to achieve in practice: I have a NavItem component with a nested instance of an Icon component from an icon library. The Icon component has its own variants, such as a boolean property that makes the icon filled rather than having a stroke. On the NavItem component, I’ve created a boolean prop call IconType and tied it to the icon, in order to swap out various component instances. No problem there.

18F: Digital service delivery | Federalist is out of beta and open for business
If you’re a program manager or a federal web developer you’ve probably been given a seemingly simple task: Create a basic website as part of a new initiative at your agency. The hardest part is often not crafting the content or designing the prototype, but getting the security and privacy compliance in order to launch and maintain the actual website’s compliance status. For that work, you might have to hire a contractor or put extra strain on your agency’s web team. It shouldn’t be that way.
How to Smoke Sausage
This is excerpted from The Wurst of Lucky Peach: A Treasury of Encased Meats, Lucky Peach’s new single-subject cookbook and reference guide for anyone interested in sausages, out now! I’m always looking to smoke some meat, but the usual suspects—pork shoulder, ribs, and beef brisket—take a while to prepare and cook. When dinner is in a few hours and I haven’t done any prep, I’ll buy a few packages of fresh Italian links—hot for adults and sweet for the kids—and throw them on the smoker.
