What was your first job as a journalist?

Presenting a show on BBC World Service. Nerve racking, but taught me how to focus.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

a million years ago.

Improve the speed that stories break, but also increasing the need for verification.

John le Carre

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It gives you unique access into other peoples' futures.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I focus on backgrounders, digging deeper than most. I cannot be part of your sales campaign.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Canon 5D Mark III, Dalet, Premiere, I just use the right tools to craft towards the deadline.

Why did you become a journalist?

Because I am naturally curious and what to share great ideas with the world. I believe that investigative journalism can help innovation.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Wrote profiles of intriguing people, some of whom went on to be famous.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Analyzing lessons learned for broadcasters from the Asian tsunami. Information is an important as aid.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Keep listening. Seen so many colleagues fail because they become shouters - and when you're shouting you missing what others are telling you.

When's the best time to pitch you?

When the story is really ready to be told.
