Same trait, different genes: pelvic spine loss in three brook stickleback populations in Alberta
Abstract The genetic basis of phenotypic or adaptive parallelism can reveal much about constraints on evolution. This study investigated the genetic basis of a canonically parallel trait: pelvic spine reduction in sticklebacks. Pelvic reduction has a highly parallel genetic basis in threespine stickleback in populations around the world, always involving a deletion of the pel1 enhancer of Pitx1. In three populations of brook stickleback in Alberta, Canada, pelvic reduction did not involve Pitx1.
Pelvic spine reduction affects diet but not gill raker morphology in two polymorphic brook stickleback (Culaea inconstans) populations
1 INTRODUCTION The maintenance of polymorphisms in natural populations is a central concept in evolutionary biology. Polymorphisms are of particular interest when they are maintained at a frequency that is too high to be explained by mutation-selection balance (Ford, 1945; Lande, 1975).

Conditionally deleterious mutation load accumulates in genomic islands but can be purged with sufficient genotypic redundancy
New Results doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/2023.03.16.532996 Abstract Local adaptation frequently evolves in patches or environments that are connected via migration. In these cases, genomic regions that are linked to an adaptive locus experience reduced effective migration rates.
Unpacking conditional neutrality: genomic signatures of selection on conditionally beneficial and conditionally deleterious mutations
Abstract It is common to look for signatures of local adaptation in genomes by identifying loci with extreme levels of allele frequency divergence among populations. This approach to finding genes associated with local adaptation often assumes antagonistic pleiotropy, wherein alternative alleles are strongly favoured in alternative environments.
Is there a Card Cap?
As there is not offical statement on the card limits, at worst there would be some programming related limit. At the very worst this number of cards would be stored in and signed 8-bit number variable, putting the maximum number of cards at 127. Most likely the number is at least 8-bit unsigned integer (because you can't have negative amount of cards), putting the maximum at 255.
C++ convert simple values to string
Although the the question is not of a gimme the code kind, since I already have a solution implemented I thought of sharing it: template <class... Tail> inline auto buildString(std::string const &head, Tail const &... tail) -> std::string; template <class... Tail> inline auto buildString(char const *head, Tail const &... tail) -> std::string; template <class... Tail> inline auto buildString(char *head, Tail const &... tail) -> std::string; template <class Head, class...
Why can't I define a function inside another function?
You can do these things, largely because they're actually not all that difficult to do. From the viewpoint of the compiler, having a function declaration inside another function is pretty trivial to implement. The compiler needs a mechanism to allow declarations inside of functions to handle other declarations (e.g., ) inside a function anyway. It will typically have a general mechanism for parsing a declaration.
Is there Still a Use for inline?
I will try to explain my "secret understanding" the best way I can. There are two entirely separate concepts here. One is the compiler's ability to replace a function call by repeating the function body directly at the call site. The other is the possibility of defining a function in more than one translation unit (= more than one file). The first one is called function inlining. The second is the purpose of the keyword.
What are the Names of the People in a Quest?
In business there is an employer who pays an employee to work. In quests, what is the word for the person who issues the quest? And what is the name of the person who goes on the quest? (Questor perhaps?)
Pop-up notification about wrong input in Qt
I like this question, I've considered it a special one and I took the time to build the notification popup I think you want. I've built a test application with a simple QPushButton which shows the popup. You can always show and hide it depending on signals you receive.
