Report: Wake Forest baseball coach Tom Walter on leave, return uncertain
In the midst of fall ball, a major piece of news dropped out of the ACC on Saturday as baseball season approaches. According to Demon Deacons Digest Wake Forest head coach Tom Walter is currently on leave and away from the program. Additionally, D1Baseball's Kendall Rogers reported that the program is in the midst of an internal investigation, and that Walter's return is TBD. Rogers put the chances of him coming back as 50-50. Walter has been at Wake Forest since 2010.
Ohio State QB Julian Sayin leaves Indiana game with injury, goes to locker room
Ohio State QB Julian Sayin has left the game with an injury against Indiana in the fourth quarter and has gone to the locker room. The Buckeyes were holding a 19-15 lead over the Hoosiers in the final seven minutes at the time of his injury. UPDATE: Julian Sayin quickly re-emerged from the Ohio State locker room a few minutes later, but his arm was being held in a sling. His day appears to be over. His departure comes after taking a big hit where the ball was knocked loose during the fourth quarter.

The report comes ahead of Alabama’s game in Knoxville on Saturday. Coleman-Williams had already been ruled out of the matchup, which will kick off at 3:30 PM Eastern. Report: College Football Playoff nearing deal to expand to 24 teams
The College Football Playoff is expanding once again. According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, a deal is being neared to expand to 24 teams. The format is expected to start in 2027, and pending final approvals, will be finalized soon. The CFP has been in a 12-team format since 2024. That’s after a stretch from 2014-2023 with a 4-team College Football Playoff. Now, we’re moving up once again, with 24 teams. Initially, it was the Big Ten that proposed the idea for the 24-team College Football Playoff.

PFF releases first mock for 2027 NFL Draft after Week 6 of college football
It’s never too early to look ahead to the 2027 NFL Draft. South Carolina has made a splash hire. The Gamecocks have hired Coastal Carolina‘s Kevin Schnall as their next head baseball coach, On3’s Pete Nakos reports. Schnall, who was a catcher at Coastal Carolina from 1995-1999, has been linked to South Carolina for much of the past year. He became a first-time head coach with the Chanticleers in 2025, and instantly led them to the College World Series and ultimately finished as national runners-up to LSU in Omaha.

Tennessee has found its next pitching coach. The Volunteers will hire East Carolina‘s Austin Knight as the replacement to Josh Reynolds, who was fired after the season ended. The Vols went 0-2 in the Chapel Hill Regional with losses to East Carolina and VCU to end their season. Knight brings an impressive resume to Knoxville.

As for other tournaments, our projections put the highest-seeded zero-loss team remaining in as the projected automatic bid. The SEC leads the way with 11 bids to the NCAA Tournament.
SEC announces 2026 awards, All-Conference teams
The regular season is over, which means it’s time for awards. On Monday, the SEC announced the winners of individual league awards and also revealed the 2026 All-Conference teams as we enter the postseason. Georgia won the SEC regular season at 23-7 in league play. Texas (19-10) and Texas A&M (18-11) trailed them, with Alabama and Florida at 18-12, Auburn and Arkansas at 17-13, Mississippi State at 16-14 and Ole Miss and Tennessee at 15-15. Every other team finished SEC play below .500.
