News Breach - Red Dead Rhysdemption
From the American Frontier to the wasteland of Pandora, we had an exciting week of PC gaming news. Welcome to the weekend again, everybody! It’s finally October, which means all the big games are fast approaching, and all of the biggest PC gaming news is coming with them. This week we have some news to discuss that I’ve literally been waiting a year to talk about. We’ll hit that first thing.
What the Golf review - definitely not par for the course (in the best way)
What the Golf is a perfect golf game for those of us whose willingness to watch golf only extends to the occasional viewing of Happy Gilmore. Where traditional golf is moderated, methodical, and slower-paced, What the Golf is pure “fly by the seat of your pants” chaos. Upon starting the game, it might look like a simple, cutely rendered golf game, but that changes immediately after the first level.
News Breach - Call of Duty, Sherlock Holmes, and Fallout 76
Welcome to another weekend, everybody! If your week has drug along at a snail’s pace just like mine, then you’re probably looking forward to spending some time with a great game. Luckily, it’s a good weekend to do it, as there have been a handful of great releases this week. Maybe you’re looking to scratch that Dark Souls itch this weekend with Code Vein or The Surge 2. If you’re looking for something that might better help you relax, might I recommend Cat Quest 2?
Borderlands 3 update coming today, UI and graphical fixes inbound
When Borderlands 3 is firing on all cylinders, it really feels like one of the best first-person shooters to come out in 2019. Since launch, however, the loot shooter has been bogged down with graphical, UI, and performance issues on both the PC and console versions. Fortunately, Gearbox has announced that a bunch of fixes are coming later today in a long-overdue Borderlands 3 update. This patch is planned to release sometime before 3 p.m. PDT (11 p.m. BST).
Fallout 76 T-51b collector's helmet recalled after potential mold exposure
The limited-edition T-51b Power Armor Helmet manufactured by Chronicle and sold at GameStop this summer has been recalled due to a mold exposure with the fabric on the inside of the one-size-fits-all wearable collectible. The T-51b helmet is a visual icon of the Fallout games. This replica, in particular, comes from the series’ most recent entry, Fallout 76. The recall appears to affect about 20,000 units that have been distributed through the retailer’s online store.
Rockin' out with Rockstar and Rocksteady
Happy Saturday, dear readers! We’ve had a busy week of game announcements, game release dates, and loads of interesting PC gaming news. Rockstar released their own game launcher this week, so get ready to add another one of those to your desktop. In other news, we’re celebrating 80 years of Batman with some new games. Let’s get right into it. Rockstar releases their own game launcher It seems we are rapidly approaching a future where every PC game publisher has its own proprietary client.
Borderlands 3 Shift Codes that you can redeem for Legendary loot
One of the best parts of Borderlands 3 is the huge variety of guns that you can find scattered all over the galaxy. There are some weapons that shoot explosive projectiles, others that deploy a shield when you aim down the sights, and even guns that you throw like a grenade instead of reloading. This isn’t even the beginning of the list when it comes to all of the possible quirks that you can find when you pick up a new gun.
News Breach - A week of new game modes
A new game experience from Resident Evil, and surprise new mode for Civ 6, and educational software for Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The Tokyo Game Show is this week, and we’ve seen trailers and reveals from tons of developers over the last few days. By the time you’re reading this, TGS will have opened to the public for people to try some demos and check out the insane booths that are scattered around the convention.
Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards, an Incan-inspired adventure, coming in 2020
Get ready to meet sun gods and shadow monsters in your adventure in the New World. We don’t see nearly enough video games exploring real-world mythology, and when we do, they tend to stick to the more popular tales from the Greek, Roman, and Norse mythos. Well, Aluna: Sentinel of the Shards, a new game coming from N-Fusion Interactive and Digiart Interactive, is diving into the interesting and less-explored Incan mythology. The game will be coming to all major platforms sometime in 2020.
Cyberpunk 2077 trailer shows the modern tech behind the cyberpunk world
See some of the technology behind one of 2020's most anticipated upcoming games. CD Projekt Red gave players a glimpse today of some of the motion capture and 3D modeling technology that is being used in Cyberpunk 2077. Specifically, this footage is from their deep-dive video that was originally shown to press at E3 2019 which was released at the end of August. The trailer was made in partnership between CD Projekt Red and Goodbye Kansas, the latter being masters of mo-cap and animation.
Botanica DLC in now ripe for the picking
Botanical Gardens, a day-and-night cycle, and more have made their way into Anno 1800. The newest DLC for Ubisoft’s Anno 1800, Botanica, has come into full bloom on PC. The content pack adds a few new buildings and a ton of decorations to turn your empire into the best place to live and a gorgeous tourist trap. Alongside the Botanica DLC, all Anno 1800 players will be getting an update that adds in a day-and-night cycle to the game at no cost.
New Steam library and Shnmue III refund update
The new Steam library looks pretty sweet. Too bad you still won't be able to play Shenmue III in it! Welcome to another weekend, gamers. Now that Gamescom and PAX West have finished up, it’s the perfect time to sit back and either play some of the new games coming out or chip away at your backlog.
Rogue Company is coming to PC and other major platforms in 2020
A band of unregulated mercenaries with powerful weapons and a knack for blowing things up? What could possibly go wrong? Shady mercenaries, tons of guns, and player versus player battles? If that sounds like a blast to you, then you’ll be happy to know that Rogue Company will be making its way to PC and all major home consoles in 2020. The game’s Early Look trailer (seen below) shows off some of the crazy gameplay and one of Rogue Company‘s maps.
Shenmue III PC backers will be able to get refunds, may take up to 3 months
Watch your emails in the coming weeks - you only have 14 days to request a refund. It’s too bad that a game that so many people were looking forward to, Shenmue III, has been drug through a mire of controversial decisions. One of the biggest of these came after it was hastily shown to be an Epic Games Store exclusive title back during the PC Gaming Show at E3, much to the disdain of those who backed it and were expecting a Steam version.
Ancient Greece out next week
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Discovery Tour: Ancient Greece, the educational romp around Ubisoft’s beautifully recreated Grecian world, will be available to those who currently own the game next week. Discovery Tour is a standalone mode where combat is turned off and the game’s difficultly is done away with so that those interested in exploring and learning about the world can do so unhindered. Starting next Tuesday, Sept.
Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mode will be plugged in after launch
Cyberpunk 2077 looks to be one of the best narrative experiences in games releasing in 2020. CD Projekt Red has implanted loads of information into our neuronal systems, from how player choice will influence the game’s conclusion to the role that religion will play in Night City. Though it seems that CD Projekt Red has more in mind than just a great single-player adventure.
Crown of the Magister, a tabletop-inspired RPG, hits Kickstarter
If you’ve been on the hunt for a tactical role-playing game that pulls together the best parts of PC RPGs and tabletop RPGs, Solasta: Crown of the Magister might be worth rolling a perception check on. Today, a new trailer for the game was released, along with the announcement of a one-month Kickstarter campaign. There is also a new one-hour long demo available on Steam to celebrate. The game will feature a large range of races, classes, and backgrounds for building a party.
game reveals, revivals, and revelations
Happy long weekend, those of you reading in the United States! A lot of people like to use the three-day holiday to go camping, but I suspect you (like many of us) will be using that extra time to play some PC games. There’s a lot that you can play this weekend, too.
Celeste and Inside are free right now on Epic Games Store
Epic's free games this week will let you either climb a mountain or tumble down one. The Epic Games Store has brought some cool games to players for free over the last few months. Just last week, players could pick up Fez simply by having the Epic Games Launcher and pressing ‘download.’ If indie darlings are your thing, you’re in for a treat! Starting today and lasting until September 5, Epic is giving players two critically acclaimed games: Celeste and Inside.
LCG Entertainment and Athlon Games are reviving Telltale Games
After a year in the grave, the corpse of Telltale Games is being reanimated to continue making games. It was just about a year ago when Telltale Games suddenly and unceremoniously closed their doors. Many developers were abruptly given notice that they were out of work. They would later discover that they would not be receiving any severance pay for their sudden termination. Along with that, games in development by Telltale such as The Wolf Among Us 2 met their end with the studio.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey combat guide
Learn how to stab and bash your way to becoming the dominant species in prehistoric Africa. The Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey combat system might seem daunting when you’re first starting out. However, as with most stuff in the game, it’s easy to master once you know how it works. Below, we’ll teach you how to dodge incoming attacks, use weapons to take down opponents, and employ some of Ancestors‘ best early weapons that are essential to survival.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey guide - Mating and birthing offspring
When it comes to making sure you have enough clan members for the next generation, there's no monkeying around! A key component in building a strong, forward-looking lineage is having plenty of new offsprings to continue into the next generation. In Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, though, it isn’t the simplest thing to figure out how to form a new couple and undergo the process of mating. Still, you’ll be doing it enough in the game that it’ll eventually become second nature.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey guide - Unlocking new skills
In Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, unlocking new skills requires a decent understanding of the game’s neuronal matrix. This is an interconnected web of skills and abilities that’s sure to remind you of your high school/college psychology class. Doing certain actions creates new nodes which can be unlocked by establishing neurological synapses between them and existing skills. There’s a lot that goes into this feature of the game, and very little of it is explaned to you.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey guide - New generations and evolution
Time may be the bane of all things, but you can use it to your advantage in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. In Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, new generations and clan evolution will be a key part of your journey. Through these, you will acquire new skills, mature genetic mutations, and become a more advanced hominid. New generation advancement To advance your lineage and unlock new skills and genetic mutations in Ancestors, you’ll need to advance to the next generation.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey - Guides and features hub
Panache Digital Games has done something incredible with Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. They’ve created a survival game based on the theory of human evolution. In Ancestors, you will start as the Missing Link, part of the last piece in truly understanding how we humans evolved into what we are today. From there, you will progress through the different stages in the homo sapien line. One remarkable thing about the game is that it really doesn’t tell you much of anything about how to play.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey guide - Fear of the unknown
There are loads of new locations to discover, but you're going to have to conquer your fear of the unknown to do so. In Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, fear of the unknown happens when you enter an area that you’ve never been in before. The first time you encounter one, it can be pretty jarring. The screen will go dark, eyes of predators flash before you, and you’ll slowly start to lose your sanity.
Football Manager 2020 scores a release on PC and Stadia later this year
Get ready to get your hands on a new Football Manager game! The foul for using your hands will surely be worth it. It’s official — Football Manager 2020 is on its way. Sports Interactive, the long-time developer on the Football Manager series, released a new trailer to build some hype about the upcoming game. You can check that trailer out below. As the announcement trailer captures so clearly, football fans have strong opinions about the sport.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey
Mankind has to evolve to survive. There's no time to monkey around. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a very unique survival game. You’re at the helm during the dawn of humanity, and your task is to lead a band of ancient hominids towards the present day. In this, you’ll have to take advantage of the benefits carried over from generation to generation and steer evolution down the right path. That far-forward sight is what makes Ancestors unique compared to other survival games that I’ve played.
good ol' G2A, more features coming to Epic Games Store
Just when I was worried there wouldn't be a lot to talk about, G2A swoops in to...save the day? With Gamescom coming up next week, not much earth-shattering news has come trickling out in the last couple days. Luckily, we have more G2A happenings to discuss, as well as Epic Games Store slowly but surely adding more features that we’ve been waiting for. To top it off, we finally know details about the new Need for Speed game and when we’ll see more of it. Let’s jump right into it, shall we?
Knights and Bikes pedals to PC later this month with local and online co-op
Strap on your helmets and kneepads! The charming, handpainted game Knights and Bikes is riding to release very soon. Players will be able to grab it on Steam and PlayStation 4 as soon as Aug. 27. Here’s the best part: The game can be played either in local or online cooperative mode. Knights and Bikes tells the story of two friends, Nessa and Demelza, on their adventures around the British Isle of Penfurzy. Joining them along the way is their pet goose and the pickled head of an undead knight.
G2A's proposed key-blocking tool receives little support, deadline extended
You know what they say: "If at first you don't succeed, push the deadline back by two weeks." We previously reported on how G2A requested support from 100 developers before they would invest in building a key-blocking tool that would make their marketplace more secure. (Yeah, we’re confused about that too.) As we are rapidly approaching their original sign-on deadline of Aug. 15, G2A has released the list of developers who have joined in support of their security tool.
Borderlands 3 pre-load not supported on Epic Games Store
We are just about a month away from Borderlands 3‘s release on September 13. As such, the thought of setting up pre-orders is top-of-mind for many eager vault hunters. One of the great pre-order advantages on the PC platform is the ability to download the game in advance. So, the natural question for players who have pre-ordered the game (or will in the coming weeks) is whether or not we will see Borderlands 3 pre-load capabilities on its exclusive Epic Games Store home.
No Man's Sky Beyond, Death Stranding, and Ooblets
What do you get when you add No Man's Sky, Death Stranding, and Ooblets together? A wild week of PC gaming news! What a week! I just got back from vacation and could seriously get used to this three-day work week thing. Even if I’m gone, the PC gaming news keeps flooding in! Here are the top stories this week in News Breach. No Man’s Sky Beyond, the game’s biggest update comes out next week A memory ingrained in the minds of many gamers was the launch of No Man’s Sky back in 2016.
Subdivision Infinity DX review - The facile final frontier
Subdivision Infinity DX is a great space shooter for new players but offers little challenge to those seeking it. Originally debuting as a mobile game on iOS and Android, Subdivision Infinity was warmly received by players and critics. It currently sits at a 4.6 / 5 on both of those platforms. With its success, Crescent Moon Games (together with MistFly Games) decided to bring the 3D space shooter to PC as Subdivision Infinity DX.
News Breach - Corsair courts Origin PC and you can now beat RuneScape
Whether you are a PC hardware aficionado or a software person, there's something going on this week for you! July is winding down, and so is summer gaming. There have been some big Steam sales, free games on Epic Game Store, and a bunch of new games to play. I hope you’ve had a lot of quality gaming time! Especially those of you who are starting school again soon.
Wolfenstein: Youngblood review - Dawn of the Terror Twins
The reboot of the Wolfenstein series managed to do something for me that games have rarely done before: pair finely-tuned first-person shooting with a story worth getting wrapped up in. The games take place in an alternate time where Axis powers won World War II. You, then, play as a character eager to shoot his way through every Nazi he finds. While we eagerly wait for the next main entry which will bring an end the rebooted saga, Wolfenstein: Youngblood is here to sate our appetite.
Tribes of Midgard open beta weekend will unleash your inner Viking
Norse mythology lovers and isometric combat fanatics alike can band together this weekend for some good ol’ fashion Viking havoc, thanks to a demo coming at the end of the week. The inbound Tribes of Midgard open beta weekend starts up on Friday, July 26 and lasts until Sunday, July 28. Donning your Viking armor and letting out your death-defying battle cry is as easy as heading over to Tribes of Midgard‘s Steam page. There, you can download the open beta.
News Breach - Game streaming, game storylines, and game services
Google Stadia still doesn't have an answer to their biggest critique, Uplay+'s library was announced, and Borderlands 3 will have cross-play...eventually. While last week was filled with big news like Ys Net making Shenmue III fans even angrier and G2A being, well, themselves, this week let us all catch our breath a little. We’ve got new Stadia info from Google, Borderlands 3 and PUBG news, and the library of games coming from Uplay+. Let’s just get right to it, shall we?
a wild ride you should only take once
A crime thriller told through the interactions of a Parisian taxi driver makes for an interesting, and surprisingly emotional, ride. Part noir-style crime saga, part people-meeting simulation, Night Call is an enjoyable fusion of two things that you might not think fit well together. Players must find a serial killer roaming the streets while collecting fares as a taxi driver.
G2A and Shenmue 3 stumble while Valve makes strides
The weekend has arrived! It’s time to kick off your work shoes and sit in front of your monitor for some quality gaming time. It’s been a busy week here at PC Invasion. We’ve seen a lot of news break, so we’ve compiled the biggest stories here to get you caught up with everything going on in the PC gaming space.
Ubisoft aims to end XP farming in Assassin's Creed Odyssey Story Creator
During E3 2019, Ubisoft uncloaked a new tool for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey players: Story Creator Mode. This allows users to create their own in-game missions. Antiquity’s aspiring level designers can choose where to set missions, what conditions to meet for completion, and most importantly, what reward to give those who finish them. Well, it turns out that players started designing levels that abuse this.
Ion Maiden changes its name due to dispute, leaves Early Access soon
In response to Iron Maiden's $2 million lawsuit, Ion Maiden has undergone a name change. Voidpoint’s ’90s-style 3D shooter will be undergoing a name change due to the legal dispute with the heavy metal band Iron Maiden. Formally called Ion Maiden, the game will instead be titled Ion Fury going forward. Voidpoint and 3D Realms have decided instead of fighting the legal battle with Iron Maiden head-on that it would be wiser to run to the hills.
Halo co-creator's next project, Disintegration, will be shown at Gamescom
The talent behind Halo has formed a brand new studio to show players their idea of combat evolved. V1 Interactive will be treating fans to a reveal of their upcoming game Disintegration during Gamescom on Aug. 19. The reveal will be happening during the event’s opening night festivities. It’s unclear if a livestream will take place for fans not in attendance (though I’d say it’s very likely that one will), but V1 encourages folks to follow their social media accounts for updates.
Outbuddies will blow your Metroid-loving mind
Outbuddies, a new game being developed by Julian Laufer and published by Headup Games, was announced today. It is a 2D, retro-styled sidescroller that takes place at the bottom of the sea. In a truly Super Metroid fashion, new gadgets will need to be unlocked to progress further in the game. Outbuddies will even support local co-op play! You can see the game’s announcement trailer below. While Outbuddies was just announced, it has been in the works by Julian Laufer since 2013.
Netflix's The Cuphead Show! will quench your wacky cartoon thirst
Now you can enjoy the beautiful art and stellar jazz soundtrack of Cuphead, without wanting to rip your hair out. Studio MDHR’s charming yet challenging game Cuphead will soon receive a Netflix adaptation. Titled The Cuphead Show!, the series will feature the 1930s-styled hand-drawn animation and an upbeat jazz soundtrack like the game it’s based on. The Cuphead Show! will follow Cuphead and his brother Mugman on many adventures across Inkwell Island.
Subdivision Infinity DX embarks on its journey to Steam in August
We definitely need more space shooters in gaming. There is just something about flying around different solar systems that brings out the celestial frontiersman in us. Luckily for fans of the genre, Subdivision Infinity DX will be piloting its way over to Steam on August 8 for the steal of a price of $14.99. It will also come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch the same day.
it's time for a sequel to the early 2000's long forgotten star
While the possibility of this series coming back is as empty as the cold vacuum of space, I'm ready to see it make a reappearance. Startopia is a space-set city management simulator very passionately beloved by a small group of people. It released way back in 2001 and received a lot of praise from critics, but it surprisingly sold very poorly. Its price dropped rather quickly after it released.
Xbox Game Pass for PC getting 7 more titles this month
Xbox Game Pass for PC has been cruising along since its reveal in June. Last month, the subscription service added Goat Simulator and Torment: Tides of Numenera. This month, Microsoft will add seven more PC games, including a handful that I’d highly recommend playing through if you haven’t already. July 4 releases Middle-earth: Shadow of War If you haven’t played Shadow of War or its predecessor Shadow of Mordor, it’s worth trying out simply for its Nemesis System.
River City Girls bring the beatdown to their boyfriends' kidnappers
WayForward took to Twitter today to announce their upcoming fighting game, River City Girls. This is the next game in the Kunio-Kun (River City) series, and it will feature Kyoko and Misako as the two main characters. River City Girls brings the arcade-style beat ’em up gameplay that the series has a long history with to PC and current generation consoles later this year.
Steel Circus shoots into Early Access this August
After scoring big in closed alpha, Steel Circus will release on Steam Early Access on August 8. A new trailer was released with the announcement, showing off the game’s Champions playing a hands-allowed version of soccer in a jaw-dropping neo-futuristic setting. Check that trailer out below. The Steel Circus The Steel Circus is an event that people from all over the solar system come to see. It features three-on-three matches in which either team must shoot a ball to score points.
