CD97/ ADGRE5 attenuates the induction of adaptive type 2 immune responses in allergic asthma
Abstract Allergic asthma results from an uncontrolled type 2 immune response to inhaled allergens. Here, we investigate the function of CD97/ADGRE5, expressed in mouse and human immune and lung epithelial cells, in this disease. Female Cd97−/− mice exhibit an exacerbated asthmatic phenotype across multiple models, primarily due to CD97 loss on immune cells.

Quantitative Chest CT Assessment of Small Airways Disease in Post-Acute SARS-CoV-2 Infection
* J.L.C. and R.V. contributed equally to this work. Summary Statement In survivors of COVID-19, quantitative analysis of expiratory chest CT images demonstrated that small airways disease with the presence of air trapping is a long-lasting sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Key Results ■ In a prospective study of 100 survivors of COVID-19 with persistent symptoms and 106 healthy controls, air trapping was detected on expiratory chest CT images.
Small Airways Disease is a Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection
Abstract Background The sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection on pulmonary structure and function remain incompletely characterized. Methods Adults with confirmed COVID-19 who remained symptomatic more than thirty days following diagnosis were enrolled and classified as ambulatory, hospitalized or requiring the intensive care unit (ICU) based on the highest level of care received during acute infection.
Enhanced Tim3 Activity Improves Survival after Influenza Infection
Josalyn L. Cho, Marly I. Roche, Barry Sandall, Abraham L. Brass, Brian Seed, Ramnik J. Xavier and Benjamin D. Medoff J Immunol September 15, 2012, 189 (6) 2879-2889; DOI: https://doi.org/10.4049/jimmunol.1102483 Abstract Influenza is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States.
Birefringence microscopy platform for assessing airway smooth muscle structure and function in vivo
Not all individuals who have respiratory reactions to allergens progress to asthma. In this issue, Cho et al. found that although allergic asthmatics and allergic nonasthmatics both experienced inflammation after allergen challenge, asthmatics had more mucin and type 2 cytokines, and allergen-specific T cells sampled from the airspace had increased innate type 2 receptors.
Smoking cessation, vaccination, maximizing inhaled therapy critical to reduce COPD readmission
ORLANDO, Fla. – COPD is one of the most common conditions associated with hospital readmission, and many of these may be preventable, according to a presentation here at Hospital Medicine 2018. Clinicians should be aware that the severity of some patients’ COPD may make readmission necessary, according to Josalyn Cho, MD, assistant professor of medicine of medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
