Whether this be major or minor difference, change impacts how we do daily activities and requires that we alter the way we do things to adequately meet the needs of the imposed change. The mining industry has begun a change; a true transformation.
Why Companies Will Sink or Swim with the New Generation of Workforce - Schneider Electric Blog
Did you know that millennials have overtaken Gen-X’ers to become the largest demographic in the American workforce? Employers everywhere are currently experiencing a “workforce transformation”; a generational shift of millennials, that are more than entering the workforce, they are dominantly taking it over. In 2015, Millennials (ages 18 to 34) surpassed Gen Xers (35 to 50) as the largest demographic in the US workforce.
Mining Industry Transformation: All Value to Gain and None to Lose - Schneider Electric Blog
When I was young and was fearful of beginning a new, unfamiliar task, my father would often say to me, “You have nothing to lose! Only knowledge to gain.” The same applies for mines who are beginning or continuing to develop their digital mining transformation, as part of the mining industry transformation.
Asset Performance Management: The Smarter Choice for Your Mine’s Growth and Health - Schneider Electric Blog
How many times in your life have you wished that you could go back and redo a moment in time? We think to ourselves, if we knew then what we know now, how much better of a decision we could have made! Unfortunately, in our own lives, there is no way of predicting the future. However, that’s not true in operations. With Asset Performance Management, predictive analytics give you the chance to predict future failures, successes, etc. within your mining operations.
Production Optimization: The Future of Digital Mining Optimization is Now - Schneider Electric Blog
No one likes delays. Whether it be an extra twenty minutes stuck in traffic or a back-ordered item you desperately want, delays cause time loss, increased expense, and overall direct inconvenience. Within the mining industry, delays must be avoided at all cost. Delays in scheduling and/or operations can cause increased mining expenditures, off-schedule events, and even, unexpected downtime.
5 Reasons Why Value Chain Optimization Closes the Supply Chain Loop - Schneider Electric Blog
Remember when you were young and completed a connect-the-dots activity? At first the page appeared to be an array of random dots with no association with one another. However, once you started following the chronological nature of the numbered dots, and connected them, suddenly a picture came to life. The dots that before were separate and unconnected suddenly work together, in one solution, to create the bigger picture.
Recognizing the Human Element of Digital Transformation
There is no doubt that Digital transformation is a hot topic. The associated technology - cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and connected products - are often deemed to be the driving force. However, what role does the changing dynamics of the workforce play in driving this digital transformation? Across the board, the average age, experience, attitude, expectation, & technical aptitude of the workforce is changing at a dramatic pace.
Defining 5 Terms to Demystify Digital Transformation - Industrie 4.0
Regardless of the industry you are in, the digital transformation is upon us. While this content references market factors directly affecting the global Oil & Gas industry, the digital transformation concepts that we define and discuss are relevant for every industry. The downstream oil and gas industry has found itself operating at a ‘new normal’. When barrel prices dropped significantly, the industry was forced to find a way to survive.
Delivering Closed Loop Business Operations for the Refinery Enterprise - Strategic Implementation of IIoT in Refineries - Schneider Electric Blog
The industrial Internet of things (IIoT)—the growing network of devices that connect, communicate, and transfer data between one another—is poised to play a growing role in how refineries operate. Due to the falling cost of connectivity and data storage, processes across the entire Oil & Gas value chain are now able to gather more data from more devices, assets, operations and processes than ever before.
Schneider Electric First Born Digital Twin in Process Engineering
The ongoing digital transformation has changed the way businesses operate from tracking data to using data to make decisions. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is pervasive across most industries. Schneider Electric has extended the capability of our platform to deploy, manage and derive value from additional IIoT connections at the lowest possible cost. The idea of a “digital twin” was cultivated from growing connection points.
Increased Regulations at Refineries, at least in California - Schneider Electric Blog
This summer, the state of California proposed changes to regulations aimed at improving safety at oil refineries. You can see the full release here. I can’t argue with any of the points specified in the proposal. But of course, implementation is another animal all together. However, I think global technology trends will be able to help refineries adhere to these regulations.
What is Operational Excellence?
Over the last few years, I have heard the term “operational excellence” become more frequently used. I always thought I knew exactly what it meant: “making your operations run at peak performance.” However, as I heard the term used more often it seemed to also be used to encompass a wider variety of applications and circumstances, so I thought I would do some research to find out exactly how “operational excellence” was defined.
Simulation in the Cloud
In my two previous blog posts I talked about how allowing multiple users to access a simulation at the same time would change the paradigm for the entire engineering process bringing about simulation driven design. However, I think I buried the lede when I wrote about those two posts. All of this is enabled by cloud technology, specifically, providing cloud-enabled simulation software to the market.
Simulation Driven Design
In my previous post, “Increased efficiency from multiple user access to a single simulation, “ I highlighted how there is a new paradigm for process simulation that allows multiple global users to collaborate at the same time on the same simulation within SimCentral. This leads to brand new paradigm in Front End Engineering Design (FEED) process.
Increased efficiency from multiple user access to a single simulation
The typical paradigm within process simulation software is for only one person to have access to a given simulation at any one time. That paradigm is inherently limiting in that typically you need several different people to work on the same simulation, sometimes in different areas, as part of the engineering design lifecycle. This creates all sorts of time delays and potential issues in making sure that the final simulation incorporates feedback and changes from various departments.
