Tom Watson has defended Jeremy Corbyn dressing up in black tie for a comedy show, saying the Labour leader looked "the absolute business". Corbyn featured in a skit for Channel 4’s ‘The Last Leg’ that involved him arriving in a Bentley and wearing a fur coat over his tuxedo. During the show, Corbyn said his passion for staying in the EU rates at about "seven or 7.5" out of ten. The incident angered some Labour MPs, according to a report in the Sunday Times.

David Cameron has announced he is quit as Prime Minister after the UK voted to leave the European Union. Cameron said he could not continue as PM after voters rejected his call for the UK to stay in the EU by a margin of 51.9% to 48.1%. That contradicted repeated suggestions by Mrs May that as many as 100,000 were "overstayers".

The government has said it is on track to offer 200,000 households 30 hours of free childcare per week this autumn – despite technical difficulties delaying 2,600 applications. In a letter to the Treasury select committee, HMRC chief executive Jon Thompson revealed that 5% of people who used the new website designed to bring together the 30 hours pledge and tax-free childcare options had experienced technical difficulties. He said he was “very sorry” that some users had issues with the site.

A senior Labour MP has accused Twitter of failing to act quickly enough on "vile" racist and sexist abuse by users of the website. Yvette Cooper, who chairs the Home Affairs Committee, described the slow response to complaints as “disgraceful and irresponsible”. IMF: UK growth forecast downgraded
UK economic growth is expected to be weaker than forecast this year, the International Monetary Fund has predicted. The IMF downgraded the UK’s projected growth from its April estimate of two per cent to 1.7 per cent, while the figure for 2018 remains at 1.5 per cent. Its update to the World Economic Outlook said the revision was a result of the “weaker-than-expected activity” in the first quarter.

The Treasury fined Theresa May’s Home Office after she gave the former head of the child abuse inquiry a salary of £500,000 per year, it has emerged. May had failed to follow the proper government rules for negotiating contract terms when she appointed Dame Lowell Goddard to lead the inquiry. The chief secretary to the Treasury is required to sign off on pay packages worth more than £142,500 but the former home secretary only obtained retrospective approval.

Scottish Parliament could have the power to block Brexit, Theresa May reveals
The Scottish Parliament could effectively be given a veto over Britain's departure from the European Union, it has emerged. Theresa May revealed that Holyrood may have to pass a so-called "legislative consent motion" in order for the Government's Great Repeal Bill to become law at Westminster. The bill is aimed at ending the authority of EU law in the UK by transferring all Brussels legislation onto the Commons statute book.
