Joshua Wilson’s Biography

Joshua Wilson is an award-winning journalist, newsroom leader and coach who specializes in driving community-centered reporting and digital innovation across commercial and nonprofit media. As the managing editor of Appen Media Group, he directs a centralized newsroom engine producing hyperlocal coverage across digital platforms and seven weekly newspapers in the Atlanta metro area.

A native Mississippian, Joshua has spent his career guiding legacy newsrooms through digital transformations, launching high-impact newsletter and video products, and managing deep community information needs assessments. His leadership background includes roles as editor and publisher of The Macon Melody and executive editor of the Mississippi Business Journal.

A dedicated advocate for the future of local news, Joshua serves as a leader of the Society of Professional Journalists Georgia Pro chapter. Committed to training the next generation, he spent 10 years teaching college journalism and media literacy courses at The University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University. At Southern Miss, he also helped launch the Roy Howard Community Journalism Center.

His work has prompted government policy changes, and he has been recognized for that reporting with first-place awards for investigative journalism from the Mississippi Press Association.
