The Grantham jury recognized a 17-member AP team of journalists with an Award of Special Merit for the continued coverage of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico (the worst spill in US history) and the team’s tenacious effort in getting the story quickly and accurately.

2011 - Multimedia category
For The AP multimedia team's ongoing coverage of the Deepwater Horizon gulf oil spill, the team won a Deadline Club award in the best multimedia, interactive graphics and animation category.
George Polk Award
2010 - Environmental reporting
The Associated Press reporting and multimedia team won for its coverage of the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The George Polk Awards are conferred annually to honor special achievement in journalism. They were established by Long Island University in 1949 to commemorate Polk, a CBS correspondent murdered the year before while covering the Greek civil war.

Was part of AP reporting team that won in the breaking news category with an "all formats" entry for our coverage of the Fort Hood shootings of late 2009.
Bernard Hurwitz Award for Excellence in Reporting
2006 - Investigative Journalism
The Hurwitz Award is an annual award for excellence in reporting among AP journalists. Ron won for his ongoing in-depth coverage of the “Grand Theft Auto” video game and the illicit content and ratings issues that led directly to congressional hearings and a $29 million game recall. Upon inspecting the code of the "Hot Coffee" mod that reveals the hidden content, Ron was able to track down the Scandavian programmer who devised the mod. That led to a challenge for Take Two Interactive to prove the sexual content did not come from their programmers, something they initially denied but finally admitted as The AP coverage dug deeper.
