Why did you become a journalist?
I wanted to travel the world, meet people who saw things very differently than I did and tell stories.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I was given the entire back page of every issue. I developed an inferiority complex but had the space to write at length.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Reporting from Rwanda during the genocide in 1994 for Monitor Radio and the Christian Science Monitor.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Get a job where you have to publish at least 500 words a day and put your name to it.

Early in the day, or send an email on the weekend.
