Can't believe what Was delivered to me on Christmas Eve : Four , Boston Acoustics VR3 Towers !! (Pics now added)
I thought I would have to wait much longer , but delivered today on Christmas Eve, FOUR beautiful Boston Acoustics vintage top of the VR line VR3 tower speakers !!! Was currently using Boston Acoustics T1030 (L/R Towers) , VR12 Center , T830 (Surround Towers) and PSB 25B (Heights) As I had earlier this year, sold my PSB Mains, surrounds and center. Was thinking to now move the T1030 towers to the back, as my Surrounds.
Anyone use/try TWO horizontal center speakers connected in parallel?
I have a system that uses the same brand of speakers in a 5.2.4 Atmos system. Have a VR-12, 3-way center speaker and some time ago, came across a rare VR-14 THX center speaker (also 3way), so I bought it as well. When I recently tried to A/B them again I found that one was a bit more “forward” and the other a bit more ”relaxed” when compared to each other. Both sound great, but slightly different.
The KISS : Destroyer Album, in Dolby Atmos Blu-Ray (Re-Mixed by Steve Wilson) Is Absolutely Fantastic !
As a Christmas gift for myself , I got the first album I ever loved as a kid, in the new Atmos format , as part of the 45th Anniversary remixed Super Deluxe release of the Destroyer album. I never truly appreciated how amazing a great album in Atmos could be, till this release. The disk contains the Steve Wilson Remixed album in Dolby Atmos , Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio.
Have 5.2.4 Atmos , would symmetrical bed layer 6.2.4 be better with a Centre back ? As no space for 7.x
Joined Jan 20, 2018 · 402 Posts Discussion Starter · #1 · a moment ago I recently redid my whole room with new speakers with a much improved Atmos speaker placement and a separate bed layer amplifier. So now is an absolutely amazing sounding 5.2.4 system . Have one unused Chanel on my 6 channel bed layer amp. I don’t have space (or much desire) to go to 7.x but do have space for a single Center back speaker if needed ,so is going to 6.2.4 , something I should consider ?
Is it Possible to have a - Voice Of Devil - Speaker ? ... or Has anyone ever tried to do this ?
I recently re-tooled my 5.2.4 Atmos system and it sounds incredible now, truly the best my room has ever sounded. Find myself up till 2am every day , listening , experiencing, and discovering audio & HT bliss all over again. (can't wait till the next evening , to do it all over again and again LOL) Here are the recent changes, and then my question after that ... A) Changed my Front L/R and Rear L/R to all be the same Quadraphonic, 7 foot tall SuperTowers. (81 inches to be exact).
My first ever Power Amplifier arrived today ! Had it built with the SpeakON option.
Joined Jan 20, 2018 · 385 Posts Discussion Starter · #1 · 2 d ago Ordered it a couple months ago , but like fine whiskey, some things take time , and this is hand built. It comes with the balanced XLR inputs and SpeakON outputs to the speakers . Luckily I found out about the big advantages of SpeakON over the typical binding posts / banana plugs , before the build started and paid the small extra charge to make the substitution .

What to update to: from my Asus O!Play Media Player ? Mainly to read and play from external USB drive
Joined Jan 20, 2018 · 373 Posts Discussion Starter · #1 · 20 m ago I have an Asus O!Play media Player that works pretty well for my needs, as I mostly just load my external drives from my old Macbook to play movies, songs, photos etc. What are the more reliable media players, that don't require high learning curve or constant maintenance? Need the player to do well with passing along Atmos, DTX, etc.
How to hang / mount large 20 + pound bookshelf speakers from the ceiling for Atmos .
Joined Jan 20, 2018 · 363 Posts Discussion Starter · #1 · a moment ago I wanted to provide some thoughts and ideas for others that may also be thinking of doing something similar. It will take me a few posts to explain : First a bit of background, before Covid I had installed 4 Atmos speakers. But at the time I did not fully understand the placement and angles completely and make some common mistakes . Plus this was before I installed my starlight ceiling and my amazing 4 Quadraphonic SuperTowers.
What are the great (vintage or new) SHALLOW Depth Speakers? (Less than 6 inches deep, Tall & Wide is fine)
My room is 18 feet wide , 11 feet deep and 8 foot ceiling. I have over the past 2 years, slowly changed all my speakers to Boston Acoustics (4 pairs of VR3's as my quadraphonic Supertowers , VR12/14 centers and most recently bought a CR9 pair, to use as my rear Atmos speakers. Now just have my front Atmos speaker pair to change over, and that is where this situation comes in.
Just had the most Bizarre interactions with Store employees when trying to purchase a Speaker connector
Joined Jan 20, 2018 · 331 Posts Discussion Starter · #1 · a moment ago I went to a local music store to buy a SpeakON connector, and had the most bizarre interaction and conversation with the employee’s there , like they did not want me to even think about mixing home audio and “Pro” audio stuff , even just a connector . Wow Made it seem like they thought I was crazy / stupid / foolish for wanting to put a SpeakON connection to my speakers.
Anyone using an older NON-HDMI AVR to power a BOSS Platform ? I need some advice
Joined Jan 20, 2018 · 323 Posts Discussion Starter · #1 · 4 h ago Hi I have a Denon AVR-X4400H and wanted to know how to best hook it up with my previous Denon AVR-3803, that I have now found a use for. I currently run a 5.1.4 Atmos system. I want to use my old Denon 3803 (it is a pre HDMI unit) to power 4 woofers (12 inch) , for my upcoming BOSS platform build, for the low frequency tactile feel.
Anyone compare the Boston Acoustics VR14 THX and VR12 Centre Chanel speakers ? I have a VR12
Joined Jan 20, 2018 · 307 Posts Discussion Starter · #1 · a moment ago I have a VR12 and love it , best Centre I have every had . Have an opportunity to perhaps get a VR14 that is hard to come by. Wanted to know if anyone has heard them both and what did you think ? Is it worth it to get the VR14 if you already have a VR12 ? Or would it be more of a sideways move with not much real world difference? Would be about a 5 hour round trip driving to go see it .
What multichannel Power amplifier to use with my Denon AVR X4400H for a unique speaker setup ?
Hi i need your advice with choosing a power amplifier that will work well with my Denon AVR and for my somewhat unique speaker setup. I have only used an AVR in the past, and never separates , so am very unsure of what is out there or any new developments in this amplifier space . My Room is 18 feet wide , 11 feet deep , 8 foot high , sealed and light controlled ,wood construction over a heated crawl space , carpeted floor , and MLP about 10 feet from the L/R towers .
Vancouver Metro Area, BC, Canada , Meetings
Was wondering who would like to meet up in the Greater Vancouver area ? (and even North/West WA , as I live close to the border ) Would be great to hear others advice and opinions on HT & Audio/Video topics and on ways to improve setups, etc. Or just chat, listen, watch and have a drink together . If you have a place/system you wish to demo , it would be nice to see and hear the various gear , that we may otherwise never get to experience.
Solved ! Elegant way to make very tall speaker towers more stable ?
Edit : Please see post #31 onwards , for a great way that solved my problem , and may be helpful to others ! It was a very cool and elegant solution, that I am very happy with . Thanks for all your input ! Just set up these SuperTowers this week. EDIT: #1 This is TWO speakers stacked on top of each other , (top speaker upside down on bottom speaker) EDIT #2 : I also want to be able to to separate the speakers sometimes, to adjust distance from wall, toe-in etc ; without too much work.
Need your input and idea's on how to make my very (almost 7 feet) tall stacked speaker towers more stable ?
What I would do, is custom make an aluminum plate "footprint" that's significantly larger. I would drill/tap for spikes on the outside, and I would mechanically fasten it to wherever your spike holes are. Should be easy to template, and if you have a local powdercoater it could look professional. I did some speaker stands like that after my idiot cat knocked over some nice speakers that just weren't very stable.

Just set up these SuperTowers this week.As many of you great DIY'ers may not read the regular speaker sub-forum , I thought I would ask you directly.I was thinking of different ideas to come up with a way to make the tall towers more stable. One idea I had , was to have a thick , 16 inch diameter wood base and sandwich the speaker between two “D” shaped posts.

Anyone else ever have the sealed Boston Acoustics Speakers, like T1030 Towers etc?
I recently (last month) acquired some vintage Boston Acoustics speakers : the once top of the line T1030 towers , T830 towers and VR12 Centre . I was shocked how fantastic these sound, my HT soundstage has never sounded better ! The clarity , detail, sparkle , imagining , soundstage , and the fact that they are non fatiguing after long or loud sessions, is remarkable. These towers are my first sealed speakers, and I am extremely impressed with them . The VR12 Centre is amazing as well.
For cooling audio cabinet , What is good quiet fan from Amazon to use ?
Thanks , those look great , do you mind explaining what you did for your setup? and the quantities of the items you used ? Or photos ? Did you cut out in the side(s) of your cabinet? Anything you would do differently , or happy just the way you did it ? I put the control unit and an exhaust fan in the top rear behind the turntable on a board I remove to access wiring. The control unit sits flush with the top and easy to set/read, exhaust fan blows up pulling air from the cabinet and out.
Is there an LCR that will work with an AVR , that is as good as the T2+ Emotive ?
I read reviews etc about how well the Emotive T2+ towers and Center sound but they are 4 ohm and need a power amp etc . Is there any equivalent 8 ohm speakers that will sound as good with just an AVR ? I am taking about something in similar price range . I’m running seven of them on an AVR. Don’t sweat it…you can grab the Emotivas.T2+ and C2+ have better sensitivity and require less power than the lower priced and smaller options.
Need BOSS Platform advice
I cannot give tech. spec's on before and after but seat of the pants yes. I have 4 Infinity 1262's under sofa and 2 JBL CS1214 under love seat. I am using Inuke 6000 for the sofa and Inuke 3000 for the loveseat. the 6000 at 4ohms per channel the 3000 8ohms bridged.
Who Is in The Pacific North West ? WA, BC
I'm about a ~4 hour drive from Vancouver. But if you listen to my system it will permanently ruin you forever. (and not in a good way, or maybe in a good way ) About a ~$100k DIY system. 29 DIY subwoofers and 100kW of FP clones, $7000 72 channel DIY active XO/DSP rig, in a purpose built structure. Nearly flat from 2hz to 30khz.
Still Enjoying my Panasonic PT-AE3000U after 13 years .... any 4K projectors I would be happy with for as long , or wait a bit longer?
I can't believe how awesome this workhorse has been for me, for so long, as almost everything else in my theatre room as got updated over the years. Anyone else have / had this projector ? I probably use it 4 hours a day on average, and still enjoy & appreciate it, as it seems very well designed and other than better black level details , do not find much to fault it on.
