Before McClatchy, Julia worked as a fellow for Newsweek covering national and international news. Her roots are in New Jersey, where graduated from The College of New Jersey. As a student, she worked for Gannett as a news intern for the Courier-Post covering local news, for Community News Service, LLC as an editorial assistant and wrote for The Signal, her college's newspaper. She also was an editorial intern for Philadelphia Style Magazine.
