What was your first job as a journalist?
My first paying job was writing HS sports stories for The Eagle. I then moved up to obituaries. And then I started working for KBTX-TV.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I have! I grew up using a typewriter and was taught by my mother how to use one.
How is social media changing news?
With the onslaught of disinformation that runs rampant on SM, accurate and truthful news can be bogged down which is such a detriment.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
This is probably a toss-up between Mary Richards and Will Mcavoy.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Send me an email or private message on socials, keep it short and sweet, and if I'm interested, I'll let you know.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Obviously my laptop, but I use text optimizers, research outlets, Grammarly, stock photo sites, WordPress, and actual books.
What's your favorite social network?
It used to be Twitter (X), but not as much anymore since the disinformation is running rampant these days.
Who do you wish followed you?
A whole slew of people, but probably Rachel Maddow the most.
Why did you become a journalist?
I was always passionate about relaying stories and events, and being able to share that in a succinct manner was important to me.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yep! I was the Sports Editor for 2 years and the Chief Editor my senior year.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
To date, I'm probably the proudest of my Best Art Galleries in Austin story, but I can't wait to write more robust article features.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Stick with it. Learn the facts, report with integrity, and don't be afraid to ask the hard questions.

What's your favorite drink?
Alcoholic- a crisp Sauvignon Blanc. Non-alcoholic- Harney and Sons Paris tea.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Probably in the kitchen making a delicious meal for my family or outside playing with my dogs.

I'm a big fan of Austin's Tribeza Magazine. It's filled with exceptional interior design tips and local restaurant openings and happenings,
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Since I tend to cover more lifestyle-type topics, people often think I'm vapid and more interested in the superficial and I'm not.
